Ambition has nothing to do with the rat race or acquiring wealth. I mean, some people say that because they have no motivation to make themselves better in any way. However, that does not make the relation true.

You should have ambition to make yourself better in some way...to keep challenging yourself. Getting in shape, staying in shape, learning a new skill/hobby, become a master in that skill/hobby. Learn a new language, study something you love even if it doesn't make you money.

Americans seem to be happier and happier just wallowing in ignorance (not accusing anyone here of that). It just seems we pride ourselves on how dumb we are and that it is cool to be a moron.

I read a book about the psychology of special forces operators and it touched on this in one chapter. They compared it to growing muscle. Doing the same weight of any exercise everybody without feeling any form of discomfort will get you no where. To build muscle, you have to sweat, struggle, feel pain, strain, etc. Then the muscle breaks down and rebuilds itself into a stronger, bigger muscle.

Guys I know who are "comfortable" and never want to go outside that comfort zone are very complacent individuals.
