Parks and Recreation is one of my favourite programmes. But this reference has still flown over my head
I can’t place it at all. Sounds like Tom but it could be Jean-Ralphio or the perfume guy. But if I can’t place it and love the show then the majority of guys are just going to think “wow, she is awful”
Nevertheless there is a time and a place and humour and tone can’t be portrayed easily of written word
Sadly (and you don’t realise this clearly) there are lots of profiles that are written very similarly to this that aren’t a reference to a comedy
And this above demonstrates no indication that it is comedic. No humour based emojis. No “if you understand this reference then I think we will get on”. No reference to parks and rec
If you scroll through this sub and the sidebar examples (which you clearly haven’t) you will see a trove of profile examples of demanding a long list of attributes. And that is mostly how this reads unfortunately

No I do not remember that one line from that one episode . It is not one of the most famous gags of the show and it is not a recurring one.

Humour in a profile is warranted but this is the whole profile and there is no context or set up. And it is written in a world where there are loads of profiles that say all of what this one says but with no humour intended at all
As I mentioned before if she had even just extended her profile to say a list of favourite shows then more people might twig this. But it doesn’t
It is a misguided attempt at humour that is indeed misplaced. This is the second time I have seen this (might have been taken down before). First time something twigged as being “off” about it but I still didn’t get the reference. It isn’t even a direct quote.
It is clever once contextualised but it fails most comedy standards by assuming far too much about the target audience. And if you need that explained to you then there isn’t much help for you because you can add “comedy” to “what men want to see in dating profiles” to the list of things you know nothing about

You were right the first time, what she brings to the table is a nasty attitude, debt (as she likes to travel, likely on the guys dime), bills and baggage from the other guys that pumped and dumped her, due to her dating out of her league. Of all the red flags, the one I don’t get at all is why would you want to text “for hours” before meeting someone? You might hate (or at the least just not be attracted) each other when you actually meet in person, in which case it was a total waste of time. When I did online dating I was usually asking about setting something up within the first three to six messages I sent. If there was no interest then, I’d just move on.

I am all for being wary of posts in this sub that make the users look like idiots due to their reacts. Most commonly with some of the Reddit stories that seem like they could easily be written by angry jilted men or people doing creative writing exercises
This profile is a reformatted Parks and Rec joke as had been pointed out incessantly. But it did not land. What it does not consider:
- Not everyone has seen the show
- People who have might not remember the joke. The original episode aired circa 10 years ago in one of the early seasons
- It is repurposed so even if you found it odd and tried to google search the words nothing would come up
- It is her whole profile
- There is no mention of being a fan of said shows or any indication that this is a joke (emojis etc)
- Critically - the content is made up of several "demand" / "criteria" that appear in serious profiles that are absolutely not joking. This has the problem of making it seem legit to those who don't understand (points 1 and 2). Also it is unclear whether she is making fun of those criteria or if she is actually serious about them and hiding it in a joke. It is likely a mix as some are a bit absurd but you never know. And that is a problem
Again, no one wants this sub to appear to be a bunch of out of touch clowns like other subs that need not be mentioned but this was a poor attempt of humour given both the content and context.
In my case I feel it would only work on me if I had watched said episode in the last week or two. And even then I'd still wonder whether I was supposed to adhere to any of the items on that list.
