As a single man, you can do it.

I have been hearing the phrase more often than I realize.

Yesterday I was talking a co-worker, a blue pilled guy that we nicknamed as Clark Kent, because he is an overall good guy. A good father, a good provider, a good engineer and so on….the perfect example of a blue pilled man, working his ass off to provide to his wife and daughter. While he earns almost 2.5x my wage, he is always in debt and sacrificing his own money to be a good provider and maintain his wife/daughter high living costs.

The point is that we were talking about a new game for Nintendo switch, Octopath Traveler, and as retro gamers we were simply delighted by it… we were talking about buying this game and a Nintendo switch. We decided to go to a Gamestop after our work… and when we arrived there, he suddenly got very quiet, monosyllabic and with a very sad tone. I grabbed both the switch and the game and he was simply staring at then with that Thousand-Yard stare. I asked him what was the problem and he said that it was too expensive, his wife wouldn’t allow him and he need to save for his daughter school. I complied and agreed just to be a bro with him and returned the video game to the stand and said to him:

-Yeah bro you are right… this game is expensive. Let’s wait for a sale or something . And he replied

-Its ok dude, you can buy it. As a single man you can do it.

Damn his words made me feel very bad, for him, and placing myself on his skin. I didn’t buy the game because it would make me feel more bad than I was. This weekend I’m buying it and I won’t tell him. But his words made me realize how the system is rigged againts us, and can make things like a simple video game, something unachievable. And let’s not forget, he earns almost 2.5 more than I do.
