Funny, 14 years ago when happily blue pilled, dating my eventually-ex-wife, I used to say Diamond rings were useless. I used to suggest at parties that the whole point was a game for women to see how much they could get their man to spend on something so profoundly worthless, with whoever got the largest/most expensive among the group of friends, won.

I'd then offer an olive branch, I'd take everything back if someone could tell me a single, true story where everything seemed lost if not for someone having their "trusty diamond ring" to save the day.

You can imagine the looks I used to get, but no one, ever, could actually refute it.

She is factually correct here. Disney fucked us all up, men included. We bought and believed the "love" part of marriage and relationships only to find out the hard way that it's only ever been about resources.

That being said, marriage ceremonies are still shallow as all hell. Wouldn't it be wiser and more financially sound to invest all that money in passive income rather than waste it on a one-off ceremony to show off? Showing off is for the rich. And presenting the illusion of wealth will absolutely bankrupt everyone.
