I've seen this in female family members as well.

Pancreatic Cancer, that's some tough shit right there. It's almost always too late by the time it's detected because it spreads through the body like a wildfire in July. Usually, the patient's life is measured in days not weeks.

I hope your BIL heals from this. You also need to have a "come to Jesus" moment with your sister and tell her that her behavior isn't at all acceptable.

I'm going to play devil's advocate a bit here and say that she really isn't unjustified in what she is doing/saying (for the most part).

Pancreatic cancer is extremely deadly - it's one of the most deadly cancers right now and we cannot do shit for it. The 5-year survival rate is about 10%. It's not like HIV where rich people (Magic Johnson) can afford the most expensive meds and live waaaay longer than they should. Patrick Swayze had pancreatic cancer (though of course not all cancers have the same level of "aggression") and is rich, but died 1.5 years after diagnosis.

I say all that because it really fucking sucks to have a partner get pancreatic cancer. Imagine you're a girl who is 25 and realizes you don't want to hit the wall, so you do what girls should do and you go looking for a good quality man instead of staying/getting on the carousel. This is what we advocate, no? So she does that, marries this dude and stays with him for a few years. She sets up all these expectations for the next 10-20 years because she is already married so she doesn't have to worry about her biological clock or anything. She has a provider who is kind so she doesn't have to worry about getting a job if she doesn't want one, doesn't have to worry about getting nice shit, and she develops expectations. Can you blame her? After all, this is what a lot of "captains" on RPW want to set up. She gets used to this new life (whether or not your BIL was a beta is irrelevant) and then BOOM, all of a sudden her husband is diagnosed with an extremely deadly disease.

If you were the husband and your wife got pancreatic cancer then yeah you would stick with her until the end, but I know I (and many others here) would also be thinking in the back of my head, "fuck, I've been with this girl for 10 years and now I have to go out and find another girl. That's really fuckin annoying that I used 10 years with this girl when I could've been with a different girl to whom this would not have happened." Call it Machiavellian or dickish or whatever you want, but that's what many would think.

But for this girl, she has a biologic clock that we just don't really have. She spent all these years with this dude and it was okay waiting a few years to have kids because the husband/provider role was locked down so they could start trying for kids whenever. Now all of a sudden that relationship ends and the time that she had all of a sudden falls away and she's 35 and needs to find a whole new provider right now so that she can have kids. I really don't blame her for being upset about that, I don't know why you do.

I'm not saying it's okay that she is skipping out on the last five days, but just remember that she is a woman. Most men have a solid honor code and they do what needs to be done/is right, even if they don't want to (you for example). Women have no such code. She may think it's right to be in the hospital with him, but her frustration/grieving/sadness/whatever is overriding her feelings of "right" and "wrong." Since women do not have a code, those emotions always override the feelings of "right" and "wrong." Don't judge her based on your morals and values. Remember that you can't be upset at a dog for acting like a dog, so don't be upset when your dog doesn't act like a cat or a sheep.

In any case, I'm sorry for your loss man. Pancreatic cancer sucks.
