A close friend of mine very much seemed high value in the beginning of our friendship because he had an immediate crush on me when we met. For the past 5 years, I’ve never reciprocated those feelings, but I liked having him around as a friend and he was okay with just friendship. However, I’ve noticed with the way that he neglects his other relationships that he is truly LV. Doesn’t do work stuff that he needs to do, curses in the admin office (we’re grad students), and ignores his girlfriend’s needs and wants. He is literally dating her because she is successful in the film world and could possibly get him a job someday. He thinks that there is an understanding about this between them because he told her that this relationship isn’t forever. I don’t like the way that he neglects his relationship with her and that has made me distance myself from him lately. When we talk on the phone, I remind him of the things he needs to do for her. Is it possible for me to maintain this friendship? Sure, grad school is lonely, but maybe I shouldn’t be in close conversation with people like this anymore? Did any of you regret terminating old friendships like this?
