His main problem is that he seems to define his self-worth through the validation of women and because his wife slept with another man this somehow reflects badly on him.

If a man is to date, have relationships, get married and have children then I would argue that he needs to ensure that he is the best possible man he can be and that means determining his own self-worth and validating his own existence through achievement that comes from personal development, so he is as well rounded as possible.

As soon as man that isn't the best possible man he can be enters a relationship seeking outside validation, he unknowingly hands all of the power to the other half of the relationship which means there is an imbalance to begin with.

If this man was a friend, I would tell him to initiate divorce proceedings and then to embrace monk mode until he gets to a point in his life where he doesn't need validation from women and where his self-worth is determined by him and him alone.
