There is no social programming. There are messages spewed out through mass media, and you choose to accept or reject them. I keep hearing fairy tales from women about how "society tells them" things, but then I ask them why they listened. Nearly every conversation along those lines with women, it ends with something like "because I wanted men to like me".

To oversimplify media history for a second: You have to remember what pays for tv and why it was developed. Money was not brought into tv for art's sake, it was to sell advertising. Shows are bought and funded for to be put in time slots and networks where they will appeal to a demographic that advertisers want.

There is the argument of creator vision but that has to be balanced in "I still have to get funded if I ever want to create that vision."

Great topic. I know that TV is sewer but if that's what makes you happy, go for it. I remember back in the 90s growing up, and my parents watched TV ALL the time. They still do, but anyway, back then when a man would come on the screen on a commercial or television show and talk like those queers talk from The Big Bang Theory, my mom would ask all of us, "He's supposed to be gay right?"

Because most men portrayed on TV back then actually talked and sounded and looked like men. They slowly got people brainwashed for men to act feminine, and women to act masculine. Sleeping around is something that men do, and is not evil or bad when done in the right context. It isn't evil or bad for women either, but is very irresponsible and damaging to their souls, which could be considered bad I guess.

Well in the UK we have public service broadcasting via the BBC. No adverts and political programmes do a decent job of being unbiased, constantly being accused by the left and right of being partisan, but they do operate in a very orthodox reference frame.

Of course there is still a whole load of trash amongst their output, but then they make something like the awesome Planet Earth 2 wih David Attenborough and you realise on the whole it's the best tv network in the world. I rarely watch, Planet Earth 2 was the only show I consumed last year.

Only problem I have with it is the lawful enforcement of the licence fee.
