An old college friend is getting married in a few months. He has done quite well for himself. He has a job as an electrical engineer and has a high income. He also owns a very nice house that he bought entirely with his money.
His fiancée seems like a good girl. She is a checkout clerk at the local supermarket. From what I hear, she has quite a bit of student loan debt from her liberal arts degree in women's studies and is looking for a marketable job. But for now, she's sticking with the checkout clerk job. She seems really nice from the two times I've met her.
Anyway, in discussing this friend with my single friends at the local pub, I came up with the following question: in what way is our male friend actually benefiting from this marriage? I mean, I'm very, very happy for him ... after all, HE'S GETTING MARRIED!!! He has accomplished the SINGLE GREATEST achievement a man can accomplish in life.
But logically, once I stepped back to analyze his situation, I wondered... what is he ACTUALLY getting out of getting married? He already has a great source of income, a house, and a girlfriend who he fucks regularly. I guess he's getting married to "ensure" the girl sticks around ...? Like it's a contract that ensures her lifelong presence... or something???
Right now, I have come to the conclusion that marriage is nothing more than my male friend legally pledging his financial assets and income to his fiancée for life. I mean, what else is really going to happen once he gets married? Is a magical unicorn going to fly down from the heavens and shit rainbows or something???
Now you all may be thinking, "Untersee(tm), you're just jealous because you're a lonely bitter single guy who has nothing better to do with his money, other than buy expensive toys and take costly international excursions. But not to worry, mate, you will MAN UP some day too and share your vast wealth with some lovingly and deserving female companion".
Yeah, yeah, I know that you all undoubtedly feel that way. As a result of worrying continuously about what other people think, I have taken the approach of conducting hours and hours of research on the matter. And I have finally found the most reputable source of related information: AskMen.com

What a great deal, right? It seems sex improves at least four-fold after the wedding date.

What a great reason! I will definitely add this to my list. I strive to attain the highest social status ever. This is why I plan to get the highest mortgage a bank will give me. I watch the Kardashians daily to see how I can better keep up with them. I am always up on the latest fashion trends. I plan to get my future fiancée the biggest diamond I can afford, and definitely abide by the three month's salary law (not planning on going any less than three months). I can't wait to get some of that social status! That and two bucks will get me a cup of coffee!
