Nah m8. The level of bitchy attitudes they had for me (younger apprentice) vs the senior techs was unabearable. I didn't even say one word to them the day I left. Fuck em. I was fortunate enough to find a nice job with minimal contact with others now and bumped my pay up substantially. Trades can be GREAT if you have the skills and don't have women above you. I just couldn't take it man.

Still won't be many women doing it, and they don't stay in the trades. I've actually come across two female boilermakers and a handful of female electricians over the last few years, but they're all young(ish). Oldest would have been late 20s or early 30s tops. If they've got half a brain, they'll get promoted to a supervisory role because women are totes awesome, and if they don't, they'll find some sucker, punch out a couple of kids and won't go back to work.
We are all getting flogged at work, but I think that's also got a fair bit to do with competing against the likes of China, India, Indonesia, etc. There are people over there getting paid a tiny fraction of what we get paid, and the output in a lot of cases will be somewhere close to comparable. Most companies are looking to import as much as they can to save coin and we're being pushed to produce more for our buck. One of the managers from the Indian arm of my company was out here sniffing out work in the last few weeks. If they get a foot in the door and start doing some of the fab work over there, it'll be a lot of guys losing jobs at our main workshop.
The prevailing trend is we're all going to get phased out and our jobs will disappear overseas... which makes it all the more baffling why companies decide to give diversity hires pointless jobs that do nothing other than eat up resources.

Really? Trying to figure out a future direction for my career and this was an option I am considering. I once thought I'd be headed to corporate HQ but the moved most of the dev jobs overseas and in their places are a bunch of "do nothing" women who started a company social media page and like to post on it. They seem to do little else.

Fwiw, I started in software dev as a full time employee. Had a couple offers, joined a team that seemed to have a great vibe. My first boss (a woman, coincidentally) was a great mentor, and our team produced some well regarded software. This is what got me a reputation among the "coders who know". When that company tanked - due to screw-ups on the business side - I quickly built a great practice as an independent contractor, based on the reputation and connections. And the skills I learned. Keep your code tight, modular and above all, transparent so the next person to work on it can instantly see exactly what you were doing, warts and all.

If you don't mind my sharing, I'd say one key is the team around you. If it's interpersonal drama you see, update the resume and move on. If they focus on how to get the project done on time and high quality, and - honestly - don't work nights & weekends, then you've got a good team. Stay a while. Work hard. Opportunities will develop.
(Note - "high quality" is easy to judge. Does the thing work? Do customers report bugs? Or just pay for it and use it? First team I ever worked on had about 3,000 customers, and got one call a month. There wasn't even a "maintenance" team. Not needed.)

Not much interpersonal drama nor is it usually necessary to work extra hours and it's usually only a few (although I'm not paid enough to work extra anyway). It's kind of a clusterfuck environment but that's no one person's fault. That's mostly on management.
I've been there awhile (over 10 years). No opportunities have developed. It's an IT group, not purely software tho.

One thing that drove me crazy about that industry was, it seemed to be a rule that if you understood the tech then you couldn't be a manager. So managers ended up making decisions based on whichever techies could smooth-talk them. Recipe for clusterfuck management and promotions etc. being based on who has the boss's ear, because the boss can't tell good work product from crap.
Glad to say though, the last team I worked with was tops, including the managers. Nice to go out on a high note.

IT jobs are full of this. If you have IT skills you're better off making your own program or hiring yourself out. Even if you're lucky enough to get a respectable IT job you end up doing more than your share of work and still get blamed for everything. Meanwhile someone that makes more than you spends the day deciding what to order everyone for lunch. No joke, this is exactly what a woman at my job at a big search engine did.

It's total bullshit. You'd think it would hit these companies in the pocketbook, but what they are doing is siphoning the money from the paychecks of productive people (and/or overloading them with work). Other fields seem to be even worse when it comes to this sort of thing (unless the job is physical labor or actual hard work).

Well I work for a subsidiary of parent company iberdrola( predominantly renewable energy engineering company). We actually have kpis that are shared company wide of the volume of woman and diversity hires that they want in management with dates to meet them. It blatantly discriminates but as its for the privileged classes it's alright. Also, what seems like every other week they have some award for woman or diversity. Like these folk can't just go to work without winning something.

Yep, that's what they're looking for. I'd guess engineering would be a 85-15 or 90-10 split by gender the main streams of mechanical, electrical, civil, etc. The push to hire more female engineers means that female graduates basically have companies groveling at their feet begging them to come and work for them. There are relatively few women who basically get their pick of the jobs while most male graduates get to jump through the usual hoops and fight it out for the remaining positions amongst themselves.

One of the things that frustrates the hell out of me is the misuse of diversity. Having a diverse range of experience, knowledge and skills at a company is a good thing. It makes a company flexible and competent at tackling a range of potential problems. Diversity of ethnicity and gender is completely irrelevant to a company's success. Yet, you'll hear people pushing for diversity hires because its a metric of successful companies... I'd like to toss those people on to a dumpster fire.

Honestly? A bit much. Before we swipe at Muslims (though don't get me wrong - YES, Team America reference, props! durka durka all the way), let's remember Samir Naga ... Naga ... who was a great coder. Disclosure: I used to code full time. While most of my colleagues were male, the women involved - including my first boss & mentor - were also tops. The beauty of programming (or software engineering as I prefer to snobbily call it) is, the quality of your work is either there, or not. Does the dam thing work?
Larger point for MGTOW is, memes like this reinforce the image of MGTOW as a woman-hating etc. etc. When actually, what I think we're mostly about is the simple idea that men should be the best men they can be, do what fulfils themselves, and disregard women's tricks to - for lack of a better word - entice and enslave us. If a woman can write great code and collaborate productively on a project, great! I'll work with her any time. And yep, maybe my best-ever boss in that profession was a woman.
