I generally don’t really get a chance to talk to men, but when I do, the conversation instantly turns negative. I can say about 5 words before a man teases me, mocks me, says something slick/rude to me, whatever. At that point I stop communicating or start gray rocking if it’s a man I have to talk to.
I know that this is instinctual and men won’t treat me delicately the way they treat other women until I’m perceived as attractive (working on it), but I don’t even have any male aqcuantinces because men are instinctively rude to me. I know having male friends is generally a myth, but I would like to get to know some guys incase a guy knows a friend that would be interested in me or something. I don’t doubt that average guys have below average friends they would be willing to set me up with or something.
For example, at work a customer said something awkward about their appearance, and I responded akwardly because I didn’t really know what to say to continue the “customer connection.” A male employee who I haven’t said more than 3 words to repeated what I said to me and was like “what was that?.” The customer said something APPEARANCE related and I didn’t even know what to say that would comfort them, plus the fact that I only have about 30 seconds to say it so that we can keep our drive times fast. I know he didn’t mean it to be mean, but all day at work I couldn’t help thinking about how he wouldn’t have ever made fun of the other, thinner new hire.
This isn’t a one time thing either. It’s like whenever I interact with men they instantly start making fun of me. I understand this is their way of friendzoning me, but I am more than willing to hover in the friend zone without them treating me like a man.
Is there a way to shut this type of behavior down other than gray rocking? Am I being delusional by trying to even make male aquaintences before I’m of a mid/high SMV? Also, a lot of the times when stuff like this happens, I kind of laugh and just choose to ignore the behavior, but I feel like I’m being weak by not standing up for myself. Are there any tips to be braver about stuff like this (a strong feminine stance?)? I don’t really like confronting men, so this is a constant problem when this behavior arises.
