This is one of the most inspiring articles I read back in my 20's by Mark Manson. He is a big proponent of self love, high values and many of the things we talk about here on FDS.

This article helped me get over the dark days after a bad break up years ago. It's been something I re-read every time I need a reminder that so called "love" is not worth compromising my dignity and self-respect.

I wanted to share it with anyone else that needs to be reminded that while love is a beautiful thing - it's not the be all, end all and we must never compromise ourselves for it. I would highly recommend all his articles and his many books - Mark Manson is a former LVM, turned HVM by all accounts!

My favourite quote:

"But when it comes to sacrificing one’s self-respect, one’s dignity, one’s physical body, one’s ambitions and life purpose, just to be with someone, then that same love becomes problematic. A loving relationship is supposed to supplement our individual identity, not damage it or replace it. If we find ourselves in situations where we’re tolerating disrespectful or abusive behavior, then that’s essentially what we’re doing: we’re allowing our love to consume us and negate us, and if we’re not careful, it will leave us as a shell of the person we once were."
