Why do men always think any form of touching is consenting to sex? As a woman I respect boundaries and always, always ask prior to. Men believe it's weak, but I believe you need consent for things as "small" as hugs, hand holding, arm holding. I even make it a habit not to tap people on their shoulder if I don't know them.

But in the past, after dating my ex for about 4 weeks, I'd hold his arm while walking, or hold hands with him. After a while he kept escalating it and eventually assaulted me. We had only kissed briefly, so I was stunned when it happened b/c there was no lead up, he just did it. I was a virgin at the time and never thought anyone would treat me like that. This happened about a year ago, so I've learned by now, but as I go on dates men seem to think if I happen to brush my arm against his that I'm "asking for it" ! It's so dramatic and blown out of proportion.

I'm not considering sex at all (for the right man maybe a few years) but I like non-sexual intimacy. Even with my girl friends I like to have a physical closeness where we hug each other and hold each other's arms/hands as we walk, etc. But these guys will overstep boundaries for "signs" I never gave.

I've been ditching guys when it happens, but I would like to date someone who doesn't rush to conclusions and of course I'm reconsidering being affectionate at all.
