Sorry for the long post Ladies,
I’m seeking some advice after reflecting on behavior that my previous ex and now another man has shown. (Who I have promptly shown the door.)
I come from a mixed Hispanic racial background and I’ve been receiving a lot of comments, attitude, or “compliments” from men around it.
My ex did not like me speaking me speaking Spanish, telling people I was Hispanic, or participating in cultural/family traditions because to him I was white and raised white till he wanted to sexualize my body making comments about how I had a “sexy Latina body” “I had a big Mexican butt” and the likes. I have body dysmorphia due to sexual assault trauma and it caused a lot of tension for me and the way it made me feel caused me to isolate from my family for a very long time.
My ex would also berate me in front of other Hispanic people telling me how I wasn’t ethnically Hispanic enough or try to convince the other person that they should agree with him that I’m white and not mixed.
When I left him I never addressed these really crippling feelings until I started living with my family again and started to focus on things that made me feel happy and whole. A lot of this included participating in traditional norms and speaking Spanish.
Recently a friend introduced me to a man even though I had explained multiple times I am not dating currently, but had gone behind my back and brought this man to a gathering anyway. When we were begrudgingly introduced I went along with it and then later explained that I was not interested in dating. He expressed disappointment in it and that was that. Today he sent me a DM on IG (I did not realize he was following me) after I posted a photo of me wearing my Ballet Folkorico dress (traditional Mexican dancing clothes for those who don’t know) from high school and celebrating that I’ve lost 60 lbs in the past year.
He made comments about how he knew by my body that I was a sexy Latina because white women “don’t look like that 🤤” and how I’m SO attractive now that I’ve lost weight, and that he wouldn’t be interested in me if I was “still fat”.
IMMEDIATELY HIT BLOCK, DELETE, BYE.
I was angry but for the first time in years, I danced in the kitchen and on Skype with my family to music and I just wanted to start crying. I’ve attempted to address my feelings and issues in therapy but my therapist explained that she doesn’t understand why and or how it’s so important to me to feel like I’m in her words “this category” and why I have to feel connected to it.
How do I beginning to address and recover from this? It’s such complex feelings about self identity and men. I don’t really know where else to go besides FDS to ask. It may be an issue beyond the group but I feel like if anything I can learn from some fellow women about why this may be hurting me so much.
(Side note because I realized after writing this some queens will ask...I have since put up more boundaries with this friend that introduced us and have distanced my self as they have started to prove they do not respect my personal interests.)

I’m not Hispanic, but balk at the last bit about “real representatives” of the Hispanic community. Jlo is real, so is AOC, so is Zoe Saldana, so is Celia Cruz, so is Alexis Bledel. The point is, they’re all real and all diverse. The Hispanic/Latinx community is big enough and wide enough to have celebrities and politicians, without pitting one as not real because their work is entertainment vs one that is real because their work is politics.
