Wait, what? What does hair colour has to do with femininity? Or professional image? There are loads of stereotypes about dumb blonds, feisty reds and stable serious brunettes. None of those hold water IRL.

Listen, the only good reason for dying your hair is because YOU want it. That’s all that matters! You wanna go blonde? Go for it! Pink highlights? Hell yeah! But if you think your life will improve after you change your hair colour, you are mistaken. Maybe you’ll get more attention, but have in mind that not all attention is good attention.

I personally am against hair dying, but that’s mostly because I’m scared of damaging it, and partly because I’m lazy. Colour upkeep is a time consuming and expensive CHORE.

Dying your hair blonde is a proces that erodes the hair. You will lose natural shine, definition and depth of color (different shades depending on how the light hits it).

I went blonde from a very dark ashy brown and I was not impressed with the results. My skin has red undertones and I look a bit sick now, like low key inflamed, because of the blonde color in contrast with my skin.

I no longer get compliments on my hair.

The tone of the blonde has to be regularly corrected for it to look polished and nice. It requires time and money to go to the salon and get it done.

Since the hair is more brittle it becomes more prone to frizz and takes more effort to style.

I hope my experience and thoughts can give you more perspective for your decision! I did this because I wanted to, and it hasn't attracted any HVM yet haha. I don't recommend you to do something that will fuck up your hair and require extra maintenance in order to appeal to the male gaze. A HVM will be attracted to your hair the way you like to have it.

I'm going back to my natural color as soon as I can go to the salon btw.

No, it's better to be the best version of yourself. There's no point going blonde if it clashes with your skin colour and washes you out. By all means change up your style but do your research into what will flatter YOU.

Also why would blonde attract a "right" kind of man? Men like all different hair colours. I see some guys on OLD looking for redheads or brunettes and I pass. I want someone that likes me for me, I'm not going to change for a man.

The important question: will going blonde flatter you and do you have a good colorist? Your professional image is bolstered by looking your best and men are going to come and go no matter what your hair color is.

Please - and this is coming from a natural blonde - do it! You’re no less serious or professional for having blonde hair. Don’t change things about yourself for men! Do it for you. It will not necessarily attract the right man because high and low value men have all sorts of taste in women. No matter what your hair, eye, or skin color; be on guard with men at all times. Do it girl - dye your hair a beautiful blonde!

I'm not sure how old you are but going from dark brown to a nice shade of blonde can be pretty high maintenance. Make sure you're willing and able to put in the time/effort if you decide to do it.

Lol it got deleted. I've been a dark brunette my whole life and it hasn't affected how attractive I feel. I'm actually starting to get excited about the grays coming in. I just want to keep my eyebrows dark, maybe with something permanent. But I'm not there yet. I have years to go.
