If you're emerging from (or about to emerge from) COVID-19 shelter-in-place with a realization that you're lonely, have few friends, are unsatisfied with your work, AKA you're unhappy...

DO. NOT. DATE. Dating is a bonus, not an essential as we've been led to believe.
Make friends. Have a support network looking out for you, and people you can hang out with instead of going on dates.
Find passions and rebuild your ability to be happy on your own. Inability to be on your own is MAJOR fuel for codependency.

I know that fragility after COVID is going to lead a lot of people into rushed relationships, or at the very least, women will over-invest in dating instead of themselves.

Agreed. You’re more likely to fall into the traps of LVMs and NVMs. Plus, more often than not, your self-worth and validation will be tied to how much attention he’s giving you. I know this by experience. It’s just not worth it. And when the relationship is over, your self esteem flunks to the deepest pits of hell. Better focus on self-improvement; it is so much more rewarding in the long run. Dating should only be reserved when you’re coming from a good place emotionally, mentally and spiritually. That way, you can be clear about your boundaries and actually follow through with them.

This thread and this subreddit are really hitting home for me. My boyfriend died in August; I thought I was doing ok, but just unlocked his phone and saw the dating apps and messages he was sending. I see now how he not only lovebombed me but was doing something similar to the ladies he was contacting. I won't get fooled again. I really need to find a community of women where I live who will keep each other with support rather than fall into a trap of toxicity again.
