I have always been wary of hormonal birth control. No matter how bad the periods or emotional the mood swings, I wanted to maintain my natural cycle of hormones that sometimes make me feel sexier, more motherly, or more in tune with my emotions. I love the feeling of being “fertile” around ovulation and craving sex from my partner in particular. Unfortunately for me, in recent years I’ve been diagnosed with PMDD and mild endometriosis and was advised to try the pill.

Obviously a large part of the redpill woman lifestyle is being in touch with our femininity. And obviously a large part of our femininity revolves around the monthly fluctuation of our sex hormones. When we are ovulating, we are more attractive to men with our facial expressions and pheromones (https://academic.oup.com/beheco/article/15/4/579/205993). Spikes in testosterone make us want sex. Around our period, we have a natural desire for the most capable mate (captain) to care for and protect our children, here’s an article on how the natural menstrual cycle affects women’s mate preferences: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11199-013-0273-4

So how do we feel about hormonal birth control, which subdues all these natural feminine processes? Beyond typical side effects, attraction is greatly impacted. Here’s a study on how women on birth control prefer less masculine men, likely due to the lack of ovulation and typical period cycle: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23528282/

I hope that my personality will be able to overcome whatever the birth control may bring. And if I notice significant negative affects I’ll be quick to discontinue. But I’d love to talk about others experiences and opinions on the topic!
