Worthwhile Degrees?

My advice if I can go back is to focus on CS or Medicine.

I would not recommend b-school unless it's a prestigious institution, or unless you have connections to get into IB, consulting, etc.

All of the above is true if the degree is costing you 10s of thousands.

Besides the degree would recommend to focus on extra projects, and side hustles. That's where wealth lies, working for your own business.

Stem or trades.

If you're passionate enough you can start your own business with a trade skill early.

STEM only. Don’t rush into college necessarily. Consider getting a few years in a trade, get some rough hands and torn jeans.

You sound like me at 18. I initially wanted to join the airforce and become a pilot right out of highschool but getting a degree through the airforce is not something I wanted to do. I’d passed all the aptitude tests just didn’t do the selection tests.

I’m now doing a computing science degree and it gives me more options. If I want in the future, I can join the airforce and become a pilot as I need a degree to do that anyways, or I can just get a high paying programming job with my degree.

Honestly, I’d get your degree so you have more freedom in what choice you want to make. CS is a very good choice in terms of what to study in university.

Education, business, engineering, computer science. All are in extremely in demand. Good question man, you’re already miles ahead of most people your age. Military isn’t a bad choice either

Airforce won't care to much what your degree is in for ocs assuming you meet all the requirements; which there's alot of for pilots.

One field you could look at is an a&p license, huge shortage of a&ps (airplane mechanics). Once covid turns around there will be lots of jobs and pay is great for a blue collar job- you'll be working in 2 years making more than most of your highschool buddies with degrees would make. I personally wish someone would of told me about jobs like this when I was younger.

Pilot is really cool. I wish I would’ve done it. Computer science is also good, you definitely have your head in the right place. 23 year old EE graduate here.

Something practical and that you take genuine interest in because 4 years is too long to be bored in a classroom for a useless degree

CS, statistics, medicine, and if youre at an ivy, law

you can do 99% of future jobs with these degrees

but be aware, automation is coming for medicine and law

I would recommend either computer science or something finance related to get into investment banking/consulting/markets etc

Computer science will only become more valuable especially with tech/ai so dominant now.

Ib/trading - you’ll make some very good money straight out of university. If you become a successful trader, you’ll be able to retire earlier than others. Most importantly, with a finance degree from a good uni, you’ll learn how to build wealth/how to actually make money.
