My boyfriend and I have been together for two years, living together for six months. We are each other’s first gf and bf. I’m currently 18 (in my country the age of consent is 16) and he is 26. We couldn’t live together for a while as I had to finish school. Apparently, he didn’t alert his parents for a year and a half of my existence, and I was treated like a not so serious girlfriend, whereas his brother’s wife was honored due to their marriage. When I told them how long we were together, their eyes opened wide. Am I foolish for being offended about this? I want my boyfriend to propose so that I am treated with equal respect. I feel ashamed for asking him so much, because I am the woman, but his brothers wife got married after just a year and a half of being together. I am sick of people assuming we aren’t close or serious, when it’s been serious since day 1 and we are both looking forward to being together forever. He wants to wait until I graduate uni and get a job, but that feels like too long for me. I want a cheap wedding, I don’t care the cost, I just want to be respected by his family. Am I pushing too hard?
