Edit: Western misogyny is as old as women rebelling against it.

I just got forwarded the song "my grandfather's clock" by a male relative in response to my grandfather's health deteriorating.

Here's the thing.

When my mom died, there was no epic funeral. When my grandma died, everybody was sad (mostly my grandfather), but there was no huge mourning ceremony.

My grandfather is waited on hand and foot by his adult daughter, who he psychologically abuses with religious gender-role bullshit well into her forties (she doesn't believe women should be in tech, but nevermind the fact that women worked all throughout the Bible).

I tried to think of a version of a deep song of mourning that would apply to my grandmother, but honest to God, the first thing that came up was "grandma got ran over by a reindeer."

A sick joke.

I tire of male worship, and I won't indulge it. I guarantee my family will all pull together to give my grandfather the funeral that my grandmother never got, and I'll be an "asshole" for not showing.
