I only got to 3 minutes.
It is basic etiquette that the person who invites, pays. This is different than friendships because your friends are not trying to sleep with you. Part of the reason we let men ask is because they need to be budgeting to date us! This demonstrates responsibility in a partner.

We don’t ask men on dates so we do not offer to pay. I do think it was in poor taste that the woman suggested ice cream. I don’t ask men for anything if we are still courting. I see what they offer and what they actually follow through on. But that she had to ask for dessert shows that he was looking out for himself. She maybe even liked him and was trying to extend the date.

After he spent $150, she probably thought $7 wasn’t that big of a deal- which it wouldn’t have been if he had offered. I don’t blame him for being annoyed if it caused him to go over budget (esp being a student at that time).

At their $150 dinner he should have inquired as to her palette. He mentioned at dinner that he isn’t a sweets person but he should have been seeking to find out if she liked it and offered it to her. Just because he doesn’t like something doesn’t mean he can’t accommodate a woman he likes. None of my exes liked sweets but they knew food was an incredibly easy way to make me happy so they obliged.

If he had been more thoughtful to begin with she wouldn’t have had to ask for a sweet treat to culminate the night. But alternately she should have noticed that he didn’t offer and continue to vet him for being cheap or controlling about food. (Yes, there are men that control what their SO eats😱.)
