Cannot comprehend meditating

The idea is:

as a human, you have certain urges, desires, and you’re inherently compulsive. These things are all a product of your mind, they’re your thoughts and feelings.

Meditation trains your mind to handle these thoughts and feelings appropriately so that you can focus your time on productive things.

If you’re consistently worried about getting a dopamine rush, or working your mind overtime dealing with thoughts and feelings inappropriately, then you won’t have much time to progress in life. As a result, you’ll never really be able to apply the strategy of TRP.

I don’t care who you are, or what your story is, consistent meditation, when done properly, will make you better in every way.

When you go to the gym and lift heavy, do you know how you're not really thinking about various things?

Your focus is on your form, muscle activation and breathing. Same thing.

You also get additional benefits for your health as you develop better focus.

What is meditation, Simply being aware.

If you need to be aware OF something, the best is to just relax in the breath.

Try the Waking Up app if you haven't. It's a guided meditation app that explains the process of meditation and helps you practice it.

After the the fifth intro session, meditation finally clicked. It's still a skill I'm a beginner at, but it's a tool that allows me to calm down, reset the day, and then focus at a moment's notice. I've been using it to unwind from the day, prepare for the day, and get me through the day.

The gist of meditation is that it helps you realize all your negative and positive emotions are generated by sensations that come and go. Realizing that helps you take in what is useful and eject what is unuseful in terms of psychological states.

It might seem seems abstract, but mindful practice should make the value of it clear.

Nonjudgmentally observe your thoughts, let them go and then refocus your attention on the present moment (breath, body and senses). And your mind will wander and you keep repeating that.

Meditation is your place of peace man. The minutes before you meditate your brain is gonna be like “no i dont wanna”. But as soon as you start its the most peaceful place you can be.

I cultivate my mind . Its called confronting your fears and insecurities and pondering about matters of the world . This and knowledge ( about the matter you pondering you can't just blindly spurt nonsencical bullshit) has given me a very good mentality and attitude (my opinion) . Though I cannot say I have conquered my biggest fears yet , I have definitely made progress and to help you overcome your fear, find a silent and dark place(dark places can help you stimulate your imagination, silence will help you cultivate your innerself... With others around you they might disturb you and cause you irrecoverable backslashes) clear your mind and find your faults, by finding faults in oneself, one can change and learn to overcome your weaknesses.

On a serious note, meditation is more than introspection. Meditation starts with breathing. My routine is to breath in for 4 seconds, hold for 4, breath out for 2 and hold an empty breath for 2 more. This isn't optimal, but increasing the time here can be dangerous for people who aren't used to it (you can pass out, seriously don't push it). If you're having trouble just halve everything. Afterwards I will always feel calm and better able to focus on whatever is troubling me. Slowly I’ve found my own breath has changed, I breath deeper and fuller, as if my body is always in the step right before entering g meditation. This is had a huge improvement in both my physical abilities but also greatly increases my ability to handle stress. If I have time to really meditate then the Wim Hof method is the absolute best method for the human body that you will find for breathing. However this method should not be used with a clouded mind, enter meditation first then use the breathing technique, and once you have finished 4 cycles of WH or 64 cycles of my technique, then begin reflect.

Meditation is a way to examine life, you must experience life or troubles, or research something of interest that gets caught in your mind. Meditation to empty the mind and simple release is inefficient and completely against the principle. Never meditate for the sake meditation!

Meditation is also not useful if you do or think of nothing. So if all you do all day is consume media and eat junk, your meditation will be fruitless. Open your heart, only by caring for the outside world, or at least having compassion, will allow you the meditation and enlightenment you seek.

Different forms of meditation. The idea is not to think about anything, easier said than done. Or rather to n=just observe thoughts.

Generally, when a thought enters our mind, we follow it, it goes down a little road and tells a little story.

The idea of meditation is to be aware of thoughts coming in and out of the mind, when you're meditating, something will come into your mind, and instead of following that thought and letting it build, you just observe it and let it pass.

Headspace app has a good exercise for this.

Meditation basically helps one not be attached to the bullshit that comes in and out of our minds, so we can choose which thoughts to follow, and which to let go.

Meditating is about emptying your mind. Think of your brain as a computer that never actually shuts down. The RAM is loaded with stuff and it's slowing down the basic functions of the computer. Meditating is about wiping out the RAM to start fresh and speed up your computer.

The goal of meditating is to not think at all, to reach absolute silence and darkness in your mind. You'll reach a ppint where you no longer have thoughts and your inner chatter is gone, all there will be will be your awareness of self and the void. Go even deeper and you will lose awareness of your physical self and only perceive your existence as a vibration, in the infinite void. You will lose your sense of time at this point. Beyond that is a great white light of pure bliss and joy.

How does it work exactly you ask? Simple. Find somewhere a dark room with no noise, sit in a comfortable position, close your eyes, and start breathing deep breaths. 3-4 seconds in, 2-3 second holds, 3-4 seconds out. You will put your mental focus on your lungs. Feel them expand and contract. As you try to just focus on your lungs, your mind will have thoughts coming and going in it, it's normal. Just stay focused on lungs. Not your breathing, but your actual lungs. Do that for as a long as you can, and check how long you did it for. It'll take time, but the longer you stay in there consciously thinking about your lungs, the less your subconscious will be firing away thoughts. You will eventually reach complete silence.

I went into learning about meditation and its history the main thing is just to relax spine straight and let yourself be watch your thoughts and dont have a goal of concentration or anything.

It puts you in a lower brain wave state like the one you have when you wake up first thing in the morning and feel calm.

So the point I think is to slow your thinking and stop analyzing so much by just being aware of what's happening to bring you more peace or you can reflect etc. But imo if your gonna do that theres no point in trying to maintain that posture.

Your brain is wired to continuously seek stimulus. Smartphone, computer, television, etc

Meditation is about cutting off that stimulus seeking pattern. Sitting in the silence and calming down the dopamine addicted monkey brain that likes lights and sounds.

In this space is where you do reflection about your life and the place you have in the world.

Meditation actually is proven to help boost willpower and prefrontal cortex activity.

If you want to be in control of your life, practice meditation because it is a muscle.
