yeah, I saw that one. It is fucking insane and some people are acting like its no big deal because 'well he had proposed several times and was paying for everything anyways', like what the actual fuck is he fighting against if not for 10 years of forced slavery just because you dated a woman and then broke up?

The man had proposed, but they could not agree on a marriage contract, btu they are acting like that makes them married even though IT IS LITERALLY THE REASON THEY DIDN'T GET MARRIED. Apparently just wanting to marry someone means you owe them 50 thousand dollars a month for ten years, even if you can't agree on getting married. What kind of dystopian hellscape is this?

Remember when people said that the common law issue was an isolated case? then a rarity? Now its even if you didn't live together you can be responsible. This is just slavery.

Let’s think about it here, she will get about six million big ones by the end of the sentence. That’s insane! No children and no real cohabitation. The harder you work, the harder you get fucked as a man. MGTOW is the only option as a modern man.

I saw this coming some time ago, the so-called judiciary needs to make money. So,they provide all the incentives to go to court for free money. If guys start to avoid marriage you just lower the bar. How the hell are lawyers and judges supposed to make money if marriages are starting to go down.

https://illusionoflaw.wordpress.com/11-kangaroo-courts-and-their-sinister-business-model/

These people are really sick. To make more money you adjust your bar....

[–]LonelyBobcat 5 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

god that makes sickening sense.

For all those who thought having a girlfriend was safe... It's not

[–]cube_earth_society 10 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

in the states its 7 years and in the eyes of the law its a marriage

[–]existential_pain0528 10 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The 7 year rule is a myth.

To meet the requirements for common law marriage you have to 1) Live together 2) be eligible for marriage (so you can't be common law married while you're married to someone else) 3) present yourself to the community as husband and wife.

There is no time requirement, however the amount of time could be used as evidence.

So you move in with your gf, neither of y'all are married, you tell your family and neighbors you're married and you would be considered common law married that day.

I've also read that there may need to be an intention to be married.

You can imagine a wealthy guy moves in with his gf, they have plans to get hitched and he dies. His gf could contest that they were common law married and that she is entitled to all of her deceased bf's assets (and liabilities).

[–]spiesvsmercs 1 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Also there's variation between states if that isn't obvious to non-Americans.

[–]AK-47_Gardening 1 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The couple in the article lived in separate houses tho

[–]existential_pain0528 1 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah the article says the guy is from Canada, I have no idea what their laws are like but they sound insane.

I hope some con man in Canada abuses this law.

I was speaking from a U.S. stand-point. I've researched common law marriages because I live in a state that recognizes that law.

What I especially don't like about common law marriage is how much can the judge can define the relationship.

"Well I know you didn't say that you were married but you took your gf to Christmas at your folk's house for 3 years, that's good for me, y'all presented yourselves as husband and wife"

This is the easiest way to abolish the nuclear family, make women undatable.

[–]fantasybj 5 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's funny cause the women these days basically make themselves undatable anyway with their ridiculous expectations.

[–]MordecaiTMM 4 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

And how little they have to offer.

[–]fantasybj 4 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I miss the days when there were no expectations. Now it's somewhere between choosing a fucking career and russian roulette.

Fuck you dad, you lied to me.

[–]MordecaiTMM 4 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

These women are oblivious to sexual market value. They think they can sling the same pussy forever and not deal with diminishing returns. Nobody is lining up to date 30 year old single moms with teenagers.

I remember trying to balance work, paying to keep up appearances, going to every birthday and holiday with gifts for everyone, just the sheer cost of a relationship was backbreaking, and it was a full time job to boot. Now I have a deal, dont get me anything, I wont get you anything. The best gift you can give me is not costing me money for shit you dont want anyway.

[–]Bourbonandcigars06 11 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

All am saying is protect your assets. Entitlement comes in all shapes and sizes and hides itself and attacks when least expect it

Make decisions as you want. EVERYONE wants what you have earned without any of the work

MarketWatch had an article

My partner has earned millions of dollars during our relationship. We’re not married, but am I entitled to anything if we split?

[–]Blunt_Sage 9 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Alimony should last no longer than a year.

[–]EnslavedOpethFan053 1 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Alimony shouldn't exist period.

[–]Blunt_Sage 2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I would disagree with that. There's a good argument for alimony for spouses who have worked in the home as homemakers or stay at home parents. They may not have work experience, and their resume may be lacking. They may not have any money saved up and may not be financially prepared for the relationship to end. That doesn't mean that their contribution was any less vital. It's only fair that they get some financial assistance getting back on their feet.

However, I can't imagine a scenario where someone would need help getting their shit together for more than about a year. After that, it's on them for not being a functioning adult.

[–]EnslavedOpethFan053 0 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If they don't have money saved up and aren't financially prepared for a split that's on them for being irresponsible. Making someone else liable for someone else's poor choices whether that be choosing not to work or finding other ways gaining income without relying on someone else is completely unfair to the other party.

[–]Blunt_Sage 1 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don't think it's irresponsible to be invested in a relationship, if that's your choice. Otherwise, everyone would have to start a relationship with one foot out the door; always prepared to leave.

[–]Dls95405 8 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

And that was the straw that broke the camel's back. Civilization has collapsed.

[–]deadBeefCafe2014 5 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Saw this one.

Dude should have bailed the moment she said no. He brought this on himself, sadly.

[–]McShaggins 5 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Man or woman, this judges decision should worry any grown adult.

[–]MGTOW_BEASTMODE 3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So if a guy buys a girl a dinner he's now obligated for all her future meals?

LOL

[–]MartyMcFly7 3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

In other words, Ontario law discourages men from having relationships beyond 3 years.

I wonder how many times men there will say, "I like you, I just don't want to become financially responsible for you. It's not you, it's the government..."

[–]phileasuk 2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Pro life tip: get the fuck out Canada.

[–]washingtonpanther 2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This is when you vanish overseas.

That, and she's a gold-digger and a thief, and that judge needs to be in jail.

[–]SalvageProbe 2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Is she obliged to still fuck him, because he became accustomed to sex on tap?

No?

Thought so.

[–]Sub-Sero 1 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Clickbait article.

If you adopt a provider role in a relationship by paying for example her rent, her utilities, her daily needs like food, or any ONE of these things you are legally liable for spousal support in most of the Western world, regardless of living situation! This has always been the case with mistresses; these women just had the burden of proof placed on her.

If you're actually stupid enough to do this with actual traceable bank payments in your name, or wiring her money every month, rather then giving her cash, you're even a greater fool because now there's an official record of your provider role to her.

A judge who sees monthly bank transfers to her, or you directly paying her rent or other things in your name is enough of a reason to slam you with spousal support. Any 2-bit lawyer could tell you this.

Simps who give money to e-thots for rent money and do this on a consecutive basis or whatever could actually be sued for spousal support and a whole lot more money.

One should not talk to her about it in texts, mails or voice messages either because these things can be used against you as well. Always end such things with 'we'll talk about it later', this gives you plausible deniability. Always make arrangements verbally and make sure she isn't recording, meaning catch her off-guard. I generally do it after sex when i know shes naked and doesn't have a recording device. Agree on the monthly stipend in cash and that's it. Do not put it in an envelope, and do not use money you just withdrew from an ATM which serial numbers can be traced back to your account. Always use washed money out of stores that you got as change who by that time will not have cctv of your transactions.

Even if she did not have any income for years according to her tax returns, the judge will ask how she paid her way. Remember, at this point she's suing you and doesn't care about you, just your money. You should answer the judge succinctly; Prostitution is how she maintained her lifestyle, and that is in essence what she was, a glorified suck maid.

Wasn't that on Canada, a totally fucked country, now as bad as India.

I would refuse, and the state trying to force me would result in something worse than 9-11 happening.
