Attacks on traditional masculinity are often condemned in the manosphere and for understandable reasons. (see here for example https://www.reddit.com/r/MGTOW/comments/cg8k5j/i_used_to_think_like_him_no_more/ )

However, I would argue that MGTOW should be about rejecting traditional masculinity. Let me explain.

Traditional masculinity was all about protecting women and providing for them. Stuff about how men had to be strong and stoic were really rooted in the need to protect the women of the tribe from enemies. It's no coincidence that even in this day and age people are more willing to sacrifice men than women. (see here: https://www.nyu.edu/about/news-publications/news/2016/june/chivalry-is-not-dead-when-it-comes-to-morality.html )

Traditional masculinity is the enemy of MGTOW. "Man up and get married" is traditional masculinity. "Provide for women" is traditional masculinity. Men should not be expected to sacrifice their own needs for others, especially in a society that doesn't value male sacrifice. Yet that is exactly what traditional masculinity tells you to do.

I say let them attack traditional masculinity. It will only liberate men from the gender role of having to protect women and provide for them. Male heroism should NOT be promoted as there's nothing good about risking your life for a society that doesn't value you. Men should stop fighting in wars, getting married, risking their own neck to save others and anything else that society tells them they should do.
