Why does she jump to all sorts of conclusions that make no sense? Oh wait. Because you can say: i feel x. Despite it not being true.

Not saying she wasn't assaulted, but legally it's one word against another. And what can a school do about that and protect both students their privacy?

It's kinda standard to hear both sides and then put both people together in incidents. But in this case authorities should have been involved. It doesn't seem wise to me to put a victim an a potential abuser in the same room and expect a healthy two way conversation.

So yeah, the school made a mistake by following standard protocol for minor incidents in an assault case. But schools don't want abusers in their classes for a bit of money. That's just jumping to conclusions.

United Kingdom, please DON'T make the same mistake that has been made in the US and Canada. Sexual assault cases should be handled by the court system that's designed for that. No university should ever be involved in trying to determine a person's guilt or innocence. This is one of many reasons why universities in the United States have become more and more hostile toward male students.

I love how they use the term “accused” for the accused but then refer to the accuser as a “survivor” in the same sentence. This is why I swear to god people genuinely think “accused” means that it is proven.

Overall, this is a pretty good idea, except for two points.

It doesn't mention anything about getting the police involved, which should be standard for any sexual assault accusation. Treating this 'in-house' would a bad idea as universities are not law-enforcement authorities, and thus shouldn't have the ability to solely perform this duty
Forcing a university to come to a decision in three months is pretty ridiculous. Yes, it shouldn't drag on unnecessarily, but what if such an investigation is supposed to take longer but has to be cut short due to this time limit? These things could take longer than 3 months. What happens if there's no conclusive evidence after 3 months? Does the case get dropped? Is an arbitrary decision made? Seems like a bad idea

TL;DR involved the police more and don't set arbitrary time limits on criminal investigations

As many of the US contingent are quick to point out, the US and UK are radically different when it comes to libel laws.

They can absolutely implement this. And the first time anyone sues, they'll be bankrupted. Both the institution and the individuals in greenlighting it and the adjudicators, not the mention the accuser.

Any solicitor worth their salt would be beside themselves either in horror at what was being proposed, or in glee at the slam dunk payday they would get for fighting one.

As far as the law is concerned, unless you have a conviction, then a person is innocent and nothing happened.

Hahahaha, that first girl went to the same university as me. This is the same university that has a women's officer but rejected a mens officer because "men don't have problems".
