So, why don't men share their emotions? Because it has negative consequences, and they aren't stupid. They would normally share these with their friends in all male spaces, but we've systematically destroyed all male spaces and left them with no place to go to express themselves without women present.

Why pick a divisive term? Why pick a vague term? Why pick a term that seems to paint everyone with the same brush?

When you say "toxic masculinity" do you think all masculinity is bad, or some bits of masculinity? How do you define "masculinity"? What are the bad traits? When are "bad" traits good? Psychology is complex, and context matters.

Everyone can agree "bad masculinity is bad", it's tautological. But the problem with tautologies are they add literally no information to the discussion. It doesn't say which traits are bad. It doesn't say when they're bad, or at what level they're bad. It just says that some parts of masculinity are bad when some parts of masculinity are bad.

There's nothing added to the discussion, just a vague insinuation that you don't like something to do with men. That's why it gets a negative response.

We're not mind readers. We don't know what you mean when you say "toxic masculinity". There's certainly journal articles by feminists that discuss it, but they probably won't agree.

Like a lot of "social justice warrior" (a similarly vague and stupid term) words, it's just like a farting noise that one side agrees is good, so they can all fart in unison without really saying anything, but feeling like they've made a point. Thanks for the contribution.

Please stop using the term 'toxic masculinity'. Is misunderstood, mis-used, and people don't like it. I don't like it and I find it hurtful when people use he term knowing that people don't like it.

Men aren't afraid of showing emotion. They are afraid of getting hurt by showing emotion.

Put a man in a place where he can trust the people around him and the emotion will come out.

The issue is that we have taken away most of the places men create environments of trust. EG male only spaces, working in the same job with the same people for years and years, etc.

In my view, the term is unhelpful at best and harmful at worst.

As for the concept (assuming you mean restrictive gender roles for men), it has some value but is too often employed as a thought-stopper and a way of shifting the agency onto men as individuals.

For example, this is readily identifiable when men's mental health is discussed. There are a number of things that could be done to make mental health and suicide prevention initiatives work better for men, if we're willing to listen to men, ask the questions and put in the work to try things. There are a number of things everyday men themselves can do to develop better connections, build emotional literacy and rebuild social outlets.

But once TM is introduced, it's the end of the discussion. It explains everything and solves nothing. The mental health services are just fine as they are. Men just aren't using them because of that TM they all have.

Toxic masculinity is the toxic feminist ideology that is trying to impose an unnatural and divisive anti male society that's at fault. A system of thought and invented discriminatory practices in feminist ideology, culture, and economy, that feminists call the patriarchy and toxic masculinity.

The term toxic masculinity is part of the feminist ideology that sees male behaviour within a context of the patriarchy and denies as much as possible that it is (1) the result of biological differences, and (2) that typical male behaviour is “human” behaviour.

That's the problem. You take the time to call it Toxic Masculinity when "sexism" "oppression" and "misandry" are preexisting words that fit. But for some reason you don't want to use those words...

Toxic masculinity was originally created by the mythopoetic men's movement, with a completely different definition. The mythopoets beleived that society was forcing boys to be feminine, instead of letting them be themselves.

Feminists twisted the definition by demanding men be more feminine, and deciding that they know what's best for men. The feminist definition of toxic masculinity is a backlash against the growing number of men speaking up.

Toxic masculinity isn't about masculinity at all; it's all about the negative stereotypes that all men are accused of, simply because they are men.

Men dont hide their emotions because of 'Toxic Masculinity'; They hide them because no one cares.

I learned quickly as a young man to NEVER fully share emotions with women, they WILL leave, women hate male emotions, in my personal experience the sole reason I can’t open up is because of how women treated me my entire life, don’t understand how that’s masculinities fault when it’s mostly women perpetrating the problem
