Awhile back there was a picture on r/pics of an absolutely beautiful painting with the artist standing right next to it. If I remember it was a Disney-like castle with a pond on the bottom. She was just wearing casual clothing (leggings and a t shirt) and looked happy to show off her wonderful work.
I messaged her saying it was super cool and she gave me so many pointers on how to get into painting. She gave me a list of budget materials, YouTube links, and went out of her way to help me out.
As a way of saying thanks, I asked her if she has a website so I can buy her art and support her, but she never responded. I thought she might’ve just been busy, but time went on and I decided to look through her history to see if she might’ve said it to someone.
Her account was deleted.
Wanna guess why? On the post were absolutely abhorrent comments about her, sexist remarks on how she’s a “karma whoring slut” (even though she didn’t even wear anything bad), and how her art is shit and she wouldn’t have gotten attention were she not in it.
I’m just so disappointed to see how much sexism is on here. Like, is it too much to ask for a woman to wear leggings without being berated? I don’t care if she was wearing a bikini, she doesn’t deserve the gross comments.
Edit:
So this post is bigger than I anticipated LMAO. For the people saying “not all of us...”, stop. I’m a guy. Do you see me saying that? No, because it’s obvious. No shit it’s not all men. Are you the type of person to say “what about white lives” at a BLM protest or “what about the other types of forests” when someone discusses the Amazon rainforest?
There’s a lot of sexism in internet discussions and it shouldn’t be taken as a personal attack on you. Instead of saying it’s not you, how about we take a stance against these people and call them out for their disgusting comments?
Oh, and get on reddit for allowing many sexist and bigoted groups to stay active for way too long.
Edit 2:
So I got a lot of responses to this, but you know what’s funny? I had 170 at what point, saw a bunch of toxic responses, and figured I’d deal with it later. Now it’s at 135 meaning the mods has to comb through a lot of shit.
Imagine if I was a girl? The creepy DM’s is bad enough, but it shows a serious issue on here that people get aggressive about when confronted.

Do not go to that sub and vote or comment. Brigading and vote manipulation are against Reddit's rules.

Seem to forget men get those comments too, according to studies, they get them more.
So its not men on the internet are horrible, its people on the internet. Many take advantage of the anonymity and become total dickheads. See: TwoX.
That post is hardly deserving of that much attention, least of all a bunch of awards. They're patting him on the head for being a good subservient boy.

Agreed, it doesn’t seem like it should be a competition between genders but more a statement that people on the internet can be horrid.

Only thing I found on it. There was another study that shows male celebrities get more harassment than women celebrities but I didn't look that one up.
[–]themolestedsliver[S] 0 points1 point2 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Interesting read and it honestly makes a lot of sense.
Men are more likely to receive harassment except sexual harassment which is probably because it is under reported. Getting told "suck my dick" or "eat my ass" from another guy is meh but if i'm a girl who doesn't play games much I could see being turned off from it.

I tried to post a positive comment on their subreddit... they figured out I was a man, and permabanned me.
I don't get it.
I like women. I'm married to one. It's fucked up.
They are obviously a bunch of crazy bitches. Not funny crazy, not sad crazy... dangerous crazy.
[–]YouMilkIsMine 27 points28 points29 points (0 children) | Copy Link
It's twoX. Everyone there thinks women are living in the 18th century with a coupla more oppressions on the side, but in reality, they are living a better life than half the men could.
[–]Oncefa2 15 points16 points17 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Meanwhile women are allowed to post top level answers to questions on AskMen meant for men.
Because why the fuck not, right?
They're the only AskXYZ sub where someone besides the XYZ group is allowed to post answers to the question.
Don't get me wrong: I don't care if women are posting in that sub. But it's apparently some huge controversy over there to suggest that maybe only men should be allowed to answer questions that are directed towards men (with women being allowed to post responses to those questions)...
But it's apparently misogynistic or something to not give women the opportunity to put words into a man's mouth.

[–]themolestedsliver[S] 0 points1 point2 points (1 child) | Copy Link
I would guess he read "Karma Whore" Immediately assumed it had to due with the poster being a woman and then added "Karma whoring slut" for exaggeration in their post.
[–]lolreal213 1 point2 points3 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Ik and the sub is so brainwashed that they think men On reddit are sexist cuz they're men. Like how long have u been on reddit.
[–]PoliticalShrapnel 16 points17 points18 points (0 children) | Copy Link
I pointed out that generalizations are wrong and I fully expect a swift ban because of it. I note sorting by controversial that dissidents have been either banned or heavily downvoted. Disgusting stuff. Posts like that being in r/all give reddit a bad name.

Why do they all act like they “not all men” isn’t a valid argument?
[–]themolestedsliver[S] 2 points3 points4 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Because they are hypocrites full stop.
If my girlfriend cheated on me with 3 of my friends I find it highly unlikely I would be given the same benefit of the doubt when saying "Women are sluts".
Obviously not all women are sluts. After all...

I'm usually against ad-hominems, 99% of the time.... but this time, of course that had to be posted by a "man" who plays Yughio, animal crossing, Maple Story. He's so devoid of any testosterone that he probably doesn't even understand that THERE ARE biological differences between men and women.
With that being said, men also get Roasted (And probably a lot harsher) than women when they posts get popular. Just go to any /r/pics feauturing a man, and sort by controversial.

That post is coming from a man. No doubt most men outside address internet trolls when they are trolling women. Then they use this opportunity to validate themselves by generalising men by pointing out those trolls.
[–]327289 1 point2 points3 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Ah yes. One person on a platform of over 330 million users should generalize the entirety of said platform. One black person was mean to me so therefore the only reasonable conclusion is that all black people deserve to have their rights taken away

It is hypocritical, but you have to understand the context:
You see, it’s the nature of the beasts. They cannot help being that way - they learned it in college or bad parenting.

This comment is what everyone who hates this sub is talking about btw. You can't just be the bigger person and keep the discussion about mens issues. You have to type some dumb anti-woman shit.
Huuuurrr Duuuuurr they learnt men hating in collage. Shut up man. Get off this toxic forum and go talk to some real women.
[–]jostler57 1 point2 points3 points (4 children) | Copy Link
I'm disparaging men and women, alike. Read closely:
That's who I'm talking about, specifically.
[–]RLL4E 0 points1 point2 points (3 children) | Copy Link
My issue is with your original comment and honestly the majority of the comments I read in this subreddit recently is that, by the way you choose to word your comments, you become the male version of the man hating feminist. You become a women hating chauvinist.
Your comment reads 'I'm better than these brainwashed feminists because I think for myself and i'm knowledgeable on the issues'.
Lets go over to the men hating feminist forums. What are they saying? It's 'I'm better than these idiot men because I think for myself and i'm knowledgeable on the issues'.
It didn't used to be, but this subreddit has become the male mirror of those extreme feminist spaces.
[–]jostler57 1 point2 points3 points (2 children) | Copy Link
Hmm... I can understand how you’d read my comment and think I don’t like women, but that hinges on the idea that feminism = women.
It doesn’t.
With that mentality, I’m sure you’ll get your feathers ruffled over many comments, but truthfully, you’re conflating the two things.
I think this world needs feminism, or some form of it, in many places around the world. Places where women are subjected to horrible lives because the men around them own them like property, or abuse them in various ways.
However, what I’m talking about — and what I’ve been talking about — is this mutation of feminism that has become more and more prevalent:
The “man hating” feminism.
Those people who decry men are a bunch of hate mongers. They lump all men into one big, bad category, and say they’re all bad.
Well, I say that’s the first step to a form of Naziism. Check out the 8 steps to genocide, and tell me at which stage you think some of the man-hating feminist comments fall.
When you group an entire ethnicity, nationality, gender or any group with a multitude of vast differences, then say they’re all the same and they’re all bad, well, that sounds a whole lot like what racists do to the people they hate on.
Are all feminists this mutated man-hating kind? No.
Are all women feminists? No.
I hope this clarifies things for you.

I appreciate you taking the time to write out this comment and I can see that you original comment is based on a bit more nuance, but, let me draw another comparison to your original comment (and replies to me) and radical feminists.
They say 'All men must die/be enslaved/insert thing here'. (You say all radical feminists are brainwashing girls going to collage)
Someone calls this out.
They say 'Well I didn't really mean all men just specifically men who X, Y, and Z'. (You say well I didn't mean all feminists just the radical brainwashy ones).
I have all the sympathy in the world for men and mens rights being a man who likes rights, but I go from feminist spaces to mens spaces, and it's just the same bullshit digs at the other sides with the genders swapped. Everyone can rationalize away their snide comment once you call them out on it, but they still made the snide dig at the other side to signal their true feelings to anyone reading and only walked it back when called out.
My main point was that it didn't used to be like this (at least not here). If feminist spaces were slinging shit it wasn't even mentioned because the people here were focused on their own issues. Now it's becoming 'Guys guys! Look what they said about us!' and then comments like your original one... It's just so disappointing to see this sub slowly turning from mens right -> Some mens right + some complaining about mean women -> 100% waaaaaahhhh women are mean to us.
[–]jostler57 0 points1 point2 points (0 children) | Copy Link
No I didn't. I said "man-hating feminists" learned it from either college or bad parenting. The "college" jab was at things like "feminist studies" degrees -- it's a misreading of my comment to think I meant all radical feminists push their ways to college aged girls; I'm sure many don't.
My unedited original comment says:
I said what I meant. Your comparison is apples to oranges, and I don't have to back-track to reiterate. My original words speak for themselves.
I get your concern - there's a slippery slope and some people, who aren't careful with their words, might've said somethings that turned you off to this, that, or the other.
I'm relatively careful with my words, and I said what I intended to say. Twisting it into something else is on you; not from me. I'll say it again in a new way: "Man-hating feminism needs to die."
As for your main point - part 1 - Thoughts become words. Words become actions.
So, if people are expressing that "all men are bad," then those people are proponents of future action repressing men. Therefore, calling out all examples of hatred towards men may be exhausting, but it's necessary to identify and call it out.
Here's a related article about why we must call out casual racism. It's fairly easy to draw parallels:
https://ideas.ted.com/why-we-need-to-call-out-casual-racism/
Main point - part 2 - If you don't like me taking jabs at the oppressors, then downvote and walk away.
