Suffragettes led to women getting the vote at the same time, or (depending on the country) shortly after men did!

This happened at the time war became an mass phenomenon, industrial in scale and with conscription. In order to keep the draftees from protest, rebellion, or desertion men were given a minuscule share of the power.

Ironically, women got the vote but were not subjected to conscription. Because vagina.
