My son died four years ago today, a result of a medical error, when he was born. He died 48 hours after he came into this world. I don't really know where to put this but I would appreciate you guys being patient. I really wanted to write him a note and this seemed better than nothing.

Dear Liam, Your mom and I were so excited the day we found out we were gonna be parents to you. We were young and also pretty scared but we loved you from the moment we were told. You gave your mom so much heartburn the first fee months. We just knew you'd have thick hair like us. We thought maybe you'd be a girl (your mom did, I always knew you'd be a boy) but we couldn't think of a name. We thought maybe Finn would be a good one, but we settled on Liam because neither of our families had a Liam in it. You got your Daddy's middle name as your middle name, Thomas. The first ultrasound was scary. You looked like a black and white monster, but you kicked and kicked because Mommy had a Gatorade beforehand and you loved it so much. The day came for you to enter the world and they told us the bad news: you neber took your first breath. You were in a box the first time I saw you in this world. So many wires and machines. Your mom cried and cried and cried and all I could do was hold her. You fought for two days and we knew that you were doing your best. You were such a beautiful boy, Liam. You had light brown hair and beautiful eyes and you were so big! You were the most beautiful baby in the world. But you eventually succumbed to the damage despite the best efforts of the doctors and on Thanksgiving Day, 2015, you passed from this world to the next and your mom and I never quite could find peace. Your urn is on the mantle and your picture is next to it. Your blanket that your Aunt Sherida made is hanging up. We miss you, my wonderful son. Your father misses you more than you'll ever know. He thinks of you every day when he sees little boys with their dads, talking about cars or getting excited about LEGO's or wanting to see a movie so much they literally can't keep still.

I miss you, Liam Thomas. Daddy loves you, and always will.
