Circumcision, it's only called circumcision if you're male. If you're female, it's mutilation.

Funny how these oppressed women always have events with fantastic staging, elaborately designed lecturns etc.

[–]Ye_olde_quagswagger[S] 13 points14 points15 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, it's very odd. Especially since the "patriarchy" wouldn't allow free speech and they earn almost nothing. In fact, I'm surprised she could even climb up on that stage without being raped by 23 evil, misogynystic, cis-gendered men.

[–]OrionTheWolf 19 points20 points21 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How about we stop talking about killing people and instead talk the issue through in a dialogue you fucking bellend

[–]Mythandros 18 points19 points20 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

She's completely fucking insane. Why are people like this given any attention?

She's clearly crazy.

Just another average feminist, calling for male genocide yet again. Feminism is a hate movement.

She looks like she fantasizes about a three way with Ronald McDonald and Wendy.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Perhaps she calls Ronald “Daddy” and Wendy “mommy”.

She could be the misbegotten love child of a clown and a redhead!

She doesn't look soulless enough to be the product of a clown and redhead getting freaky...

The huge rise in men declaring to be women would be staggering. And yet, there would be no men left, and still, Patriarchy would still be around...

[–]fengpi 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If there is but one man left, patriarchy would still exist. In fact, it would exist worse than ever and we have to kill that last man. And then spend a few decades killing-off any women laboring under patriarchy's residual false consciousness until only a few women are left. And then they can happily eat ice cream and cake until the electricity permanently goes-off 1 week later.

[–]fengpi 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I want people to understand that patriarchy is not men,” she caveated.

Oh of course not. Let's kill men, though. To target patriarchy.

This woman needs Thorazine and plenty of it.

[–]ThePigmanAgain 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

"The head of that octopus is patriarchy because that is the ideology that moves the eight tentacles of the octopus. And each one of those tentacles is what we call systems of oppression, or various institutions that oppress us. So it would be white supremacy, capitalism, misogyny, homophobia, bigotry, ableism, things like that.”

LOL! Patriarchy is, quite literally, to blame for everything. This woman is both evil and retarded.

[–]Ye_olde_quagswagger[S] 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There is scientific proof that if feminists don't complain about imaginary things at least twice daily, they shrivel up and turn into foreskins.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Where do you people find these clowns?

[–]Ye_olde_quagswagger[S] 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Good question. What I speak of is a system. That system is our enemy. But when you're inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

That honestly is true. Even if I'm constantly on some sort of device, I'm obviously blinded by the normalized sexism that is constantly being shared, or unable to say something against it. I feel like I have an advantage as a black woman (I hate using it as that but nobody would listen to me) but I feel like I won't help men have their voices get heard if I talk for them. Idk now I'm rambling but really nice thought food you gave me.

[–]Ye_olde_quagswagger[S] 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I wouldn't worry too much about speaking out for men, we're not going to say you're stealing our voice or anything ;). Just hold on to your own opinion and you feel like speaking out, you won't be judged here (well, not by us. It's still the internet :p).

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]ThePigmanAgain 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well, i probably made it seem like 300 thousand were supporting her on this particular statement. What i meant was that she has 300 thousand people whose minds she can pollute. Surprising amount of influence for someone i have never even heard of.

If you type in "red haired feminist" on google, go to images and scroll fown through big red she's next. I guess her books are popular...

[–]Lethn 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

At this point I'm practically giddy over the idea of them trying to physically attack me because I'm somebody who will fight back and it will be nice to get this bullshit out of the way so we can get back to our normal lives. I think like with Antifa when a lot of people see these act tough we all just fucking laugh because they would last five seconds in a real fight of any kind.

That has been consistently proven at their stupid protest events any time they try to get violent with men who will fight back. She is an utter fantasist, fat women with red hair and Antifa soyboys are no threat to anybody who knows how to take care of themselves even slightly.

I think what is such a joke is just the sheer smugness these women especially say this crap, bitch please, you're not fooling anybody.

[–]DumbFucker109 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wait wait wait. So men don't contribute to the patriarchy it just keeps them above women through something not rly in their control your saying and yet. You want to kill them.

[–]MineDogger 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Confirming that "feminism" is just thinly veiled bigotry.

[–]throwlaca 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

> she went on to “imagine” killing a certain number of men a week in order to fight against it.

But you don't have to imagine it. You do kill a lot of male kids, and I mean a LOT. Mothers drown and kill their babies all the time, not to mention the ones that abort them.

[–]lostapwbm 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Imagine being so delusional as to imagine that if you begin systematically killing a group of people on the basis of their immutable characteristics (having a penis) that said group of people won't kill you right back.

People who romanticize violence usually have no actual experience with violence.

[+]The_toast_of_Reddit1 points 6 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah but when they're talking about a mental health reform they're certainly not talking about for cases like this.

[–]Ye_olde_quagswagger[S] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, they're actually specifically talking about her. She's this year's goal for mental health reform. :p

[–]ququqachu -5 points-4 points-3 points 6 years ago* (21 children) | Copy Link

To combat the clear bias of the article, here's a longer quote for context and my own emphasis added:

I understood it was highly controversial, and I was intentional. I ask people to imagine — now I'm using this word imagine, and I'm underlining it three times — a scenario in which we kill a certain number of men every week. How many men must we kill until patriarchy sits across the table from us and says, "OK, stop. What must we do, so that you can stop this culling?"

My question here is, how long must we wait so that men stop raping us? What will it take so that men stop murdering us?

Since my book came out, several women have said to me, "Oh my god, I am a mother of sons. How can you be talking about this?" And I say to them, "You are more upset and disturbed at the imaginary scenario of violence against your sons than the actual violence that is committed every day against your daughters or someone else's daughter."

What does that mean about what patriarchy has done to us?

Her point is not to actually suggest culling men. Her point is to make a hypothetical comparison to highlight violence against women. Now you can argue that it's not a good point or that it's a bad analogy, but implying that it's a call to violence is just lying.

Ignoring facts makes us just as crazy as radical feminists. Let's not set that precedent.

[–]sakura_drop 10 points11 points12 points 6 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

The thread title clearly says fantasises - a synonym for imagine. There is no implication that it was a literal call for violence.

[–]ququqachu -5 points-4 points-3 points 6 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

"Fantasize," which means "indulge in daydreaming about something desired," is most definitely not a synonym for "imagine," which means "form a mental image or concept of." The word "fantasize" by definition means that she "wants" her fantasy, which is not true.

This meaning becomes clear by looking at people's various responses in this thread alone:

Add Mona Eltahawy to the list of people who fantasize about killing a certain number of men each week, joining such inspiring names as Adolph Hitler, Jeffrey Dahmer, and Jason Vorhees.

Just another average feminist, calling for male genocide yet again

Again, don't deny facts just to push your own agenda. That makes you no better than them.

[–]sakura_drop 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

fantasize [ fan-tuh-sahyz ]

verb : dream about desires

  • daydream
  • hallucinate
  • envision
  • imagine
  • invent
  • moon
  • romance
  • woolgather
  • build castles in air
  • head trip
  • live in a dream world
  • trip out

I'm not pushing any agenda. I highly doubt every moron who used the #killallmen hashtag on social media back when that was a thing literally wanted to kill all the men in the world, but it was nonetheless highly inappropriate and deserving of criticism.

This woman has written a feminist book encouraging radical feminism and advocating "justifiable violence" against men, part of an ideology which does have a history of suggesting the culling of men (regardless of whether or not you choose to take these ideas seriously) and then spoke about these ideas on a public platform.

From the linked article:

In her latest book, The Seven Necessary Sins for Women and Girls, Eltahawy says women and girls need to harness anger, attention-seeking, ambition, power, profanity, lust and violence in order to truly be liberated from what she describes as the "tentacles of the octopus known as patriarchy."

[+]ququqachu -7 points-6 points-5 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Okay, so if she’s fantasizing about culling all men, so are you, right? Because by your own definition you’re “envisioning” that reality. So is it fair to say you fantasize about killing all men?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

What the fuck?

[–]ququqachu 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

Well that’s what he’s saying, right? “Fantasizing” about something just means imagining or envisioning it, and doesn’t mean you have to want it. So like, when I think about a potential nuclear apocalypse, I’m “fantasizing” about it. When this lady uses a hypothetical alternate reality to make a comparison to our reality, she’s “fantasizing” about culling all men. And because he was offended by the image of such a horrible act, he’s also “fantasizing” about it because he envisioned it in his mind.

Sounds stupid, right? Because, shockingly, that’s not what the word “fantasize” means, and that’s why this article is biased, because it makes it seem like she WANTS to “cull men” when she’s actually saying such a thing would be awful.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Why even speak about it then?

[–]ququqachu 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

In order to provide an analogy. A poor one, at that, but making an analogy in poor taste is not the same thing as calling for genocide. But this article and many ignorant people somehow don’t seem to see the difference.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I mean she also spouts shit like patriarchy and things like that.

[–]Ody_ssey 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She wants to defeat patriarchy which doesn't exist.

[–]Ye_olde_quagswagger[S] 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Ok, now how about we ask the public to imagine a scenario where we kill a number of women every week and ask how many women should kill until misandry stops.

There'd be a shitstorm for months. Still, I understand what you're saying but I haven't ignored any facts. That title I used is just the title of the article. However, let's not forget she's promoting a book that defends violence against men.

here's a fun little quote from her: "women and girls need to harness anger, attention-seeking, ambition, power, profanity, lust and violence in order to truly be liberated from the tentacles of the octopus known as patriarchy."

The book's called "The Seven Necessary Sins for Women and Girls".

I got this info from here: https://www.cbc.ca/radio/outintheopen/i-want-patriarchy-to-fear-women-mona-eltahawy-says-the-time-for-being-civil-peaceful-and-polite-is-over-1.5296597

[–]ququqachu -5 points-4 points-3 points 6 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Wow, you're just full of logical fallacies! Shifting the goalposts by totally changing the topic away from the meaning of this quote and the bias of this article, and instead focusing it towards other things she's said other times. And then, constructing a straw-man (there'd be a shitstorm!) to try to argue your shifted point? Wow!

Dude, I'm just pointing out bias when I see it. Your emotional hysteria isn't doing anything to convince anyone of your viewpoint; you should consider using logic.

[–]Lethn 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Western feminists are easily the most spoiled and privileged class of people in existence. I am not going to take my cues on what oppression is from them, they have no real world experience in anything and live incredibly sheltered lives where they don't have to face the consequences of any of the ideas they try to introduce to society.

If you want to ignore her bullshit justifications of violence, fine, let's look at all the other crap she's spewing.

“I want people to imagine patriarchy as an octopus. The head of that octopus is patriarchy because that is the ideology that moves the eight tentacles of the octopus. And each one of those tentacles is what we call systems of oppression, or various institutions that oppress us. So it would be white supremacy, capitalism, misogyny, homophobia, bigotry, ableism, things like that.”

Capitalism is apparently a problem for her which is hilarious and she considers it to be a part of the 'patriarchy' yet there she is as others have pointed out standing at a fucking glass pedestal speaking at a crowd of people perfectly willing to listen to her. Feminists do shit like this constantly, they hijack all these issues that most people care about and would of course be against and then they start shoving their political agenda into everything, in this case she's peddling anti-capitalism. I'm betting if I did more research into her background I'd probably find out she's either a Socialist or a Communist.

Even if you manage to casually dismiss her violent fantasies what she is peddling is absolute crap but I think you're just simply doing damage control and acting like another of the usual fake hand wringing moderates that come here lecturing us for pointing out that women like this exist.

If any one of us started talking like this you would be one of the first to immediately take it seriously and start a fight, you're a fucking coward.

[–]ququqachu -3 points-2 points-1 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Omg you're so brave, totally unbiased and grounded in fact, speaking truth to power, good on you dude

What's funny is I actually spend time pointing out bias, logical fallacies, and ridiculous arguments this in radical leftist groups too. You can literally just replace this entire schpeel about feminists with like, nazis or republicans and it would be exactly the same. Extremism is so bizarre.

[–]Ye_olde_quagswagger[S] 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I believe I am using logic, and I'm certainly not hysteric. I was trying to point out why I have a problem with the words she spoke. And the other article was about that same interview, actually. The interview with CBC.

If you you still see logical fallacies in my reasoning however, feel free to point them out.

That's not bullshit btw, I really would like to know where I went wrong. I always try to be logical but who knows.

[–]ququqachu 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

In my last comment explicitly pointed them out to you and cited the ways in which you shifted goalposts and constructed a straw man. Earnest question, do you know what those logical fallacies are? If not I can link some articles explaining how they work

[–]Ye_olde_quagswagger[S] 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

I believe I already explained my reasoning, so I don't exactly agree with you. But I would like to take a look at those articles.

Oh, and please refrain from calling us extremists. People here are just trying to share their opinion. You're also welcome to do so, but try and be considerate please.

[–]ququqachu 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Moving the goalposts is described here. Essentially, moving goalposts is ignoring evidence that would prove your opponent’s claim and instead shifting to a new topic/burden of evidence (in our example, I showed very strong reasoning that the article misrepresented this woman’s meaning, and you in response changed the topic to her other comments instead of addressing the comment we were discussing).

The straw man fallacy is described here. By arguing that there would be outcry (which I would implicitly be a part of) you were creating an argument made by my “side” that had not been made, essentially putting words in my mouth.

I’m willing to debate in good faith, and I’ll refrain from calling anyone extremists going forward. But when someone is talking about life, death, and genocide while completely ignoring all evidence or reason against their presupposed position, that’s extremist behavior to me (not meaning you, but that other guy).

[–]Ye_olde_quagswagger[S] 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't think I was moving goalposts since there is an entire interview of which one single comment wouldn't be an accurate representation. That's the reason I mentioned the other article in the first place, things like these can easily be taken out of context. It's why the link is there in the first place. I never disagreed with you on the word imagine, in fact I think you have a point. I thought the other person had a point as well.

The whole straw-man fallacy thing suggests I twisted her words. I did not, if men and women are equal then they should be interchangeable. So I exchanged the variables she used. When I said there'd be an outcry that didn't necessarily include you and did not mean to target you in any way. It was a simple extrapolation of my hypothesis, one that I consider valid when looking at other outcries over similarly provocative statements. I didn't realise you have a specific "side" your on and would I'm repulsed at the idea if intentionally putting words in someone's mouth as I have great respect for free speech.

Thanks for explaining, sharing and being civil :). I doubt we're really going to agree since, well this is the internet but I've enjoyed this little discussion, unless you've got anything to add of course.

Why is this being downvoted? This article has a ton of spin on it. You should be pissed about being mislead by a mainstream media outlet. Don’t misunderstand me, I think she’s an idiot, but if breitbart wanted to point that out they could have just examined her argument. They could have brought up the fact that violent crime, against both men and women, has been on the decline for years. They could have provided context by highlighting the actual rates of violent victimization of women and comparing them to the rates of male victimization. They could have pointed out a litany of examples illustrating how seamlessly responsive modern society is to the constant and oft hyperbolized woes of women. They could have bolstered this point by providing some examples that highlight how maddeningly hesitant people are to even recognize male disadvantage.

Feminist arguments often do not stand up to scrutiny. They fall apart when you shine the light of reality on them. The knuckleheads at breitbart could have provided the other side of the story, but they didn’t because they aren’t after truth, they’re after outrage clicks and you’re giving them exactly what they want.

The strategy employed in this article is the same strategy that feminist news outlets use. They took her words out of context in the interest of creating a misleading narrative. You’re being lied to. Im gonna say it again, you should be pissed.
