I could have told you this without even going to see it. Everything coming out of Hollywood in movies, television, and commercials is anti-male. My own sons, who are 9 and 11, will be watching a movie and saying things like, "Oh, here comes the female character who's good at everything and will save the day." They're little kids and even they see it.

[–]BastaHR 23 points24 points25 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Let them watch good old movies.

[–]DJ-Roukan 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, let them see them. That is awesome. This next generation of both boys and girls have what we never had, an opposing voice exposing the misandry.

They are going to rain hell down on feminism and this society once they come of age.

[–]annierosewood 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They are extremely well versed in old movies. Every Friday night is movie night in our house. This weekend, we watched the old Conan movies. They love everything Schwarzenegger.

[+]DelScipio1 points 6 years ago* [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link

We had all the time movies that a man was the hero. Having a couple of movies that women are the hero is okay if not forced. We still have good action movies with men. John Wick is amazing, love it, entertaining, violence, everything, like a afternoon movie in the 90's, full of violence. Don't worry is not that theres no more mvoies that men lead, also you have old ones.

[–]DJ-Roukan 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Nonsense, and I won't waste the time explaining why.

[+]DelScipio1 points 6 years ago* [recovered] (5 children) | Copy Link

Please do so. I would love to see where we have lack of movies with male has main char.

[–]DJ-Roukan 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

it's not the lack, it's the gynowashing from everything from Ghost Busters franchise, to the new female Bond, to the ridiculous portrayal of men in said movies. Hell, even Thor is being castrated.

You guys come here and post one time regurgitating feminist nonsense, or trying to diminish this movement when you basically have not clue one as to what is going on.

Drop the arrogance, wake up, Read the board for a month or two, then speak.

...and "you have old ones" is, well, it's asinine.

[+]DelScipio1 points 6 years ago* [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

No one saw Ghostbusters movie.

The new James Bond movie we have no fucking idea about the plot. I can figure a couple of good plots that can make all the famale Bond acceptable.

You only gave me 2 mainstream situations, one criticized by everyone, and another that we have no idea of the plot.

You are the kind of people that gives bad name to the movement, the movement isn't about hating everything women are on, is about defend our rights, and to do it we need the help of all women that agrees with us. We can't exclude all the people from our movement, we need everyone, we can't be like feminists and piss off on everyone else. This is the kind of of attitude that makes people thinking that we are extremists. We aren't, because we aren't fighting for anything out of the ordinary, our demands are just common sense.

I can give you a enormous list of movies with male as main. We have a lot. We have space for movies with women leading, and PC junk isn't anything new. Many of that shit only gets publicity because of "outrages".

If you want to live in a eco chamber of women hating this isn't the sub for you.

[–]DJ-Roukan 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

You are the kind of people that gives bad name to the movement, the movement isn't about hating everything women are on, is about defend our rights, and to do it we need the help of all women that agrees with us.

I am this movement, fella, or at least a part of it. We created this movement back in the 80s, and I've been active out there in the public, in print, on TV, even to congress. I personally created one of the first men's boards when the internet went live...and the whole 35 years we've been dealing with guys like you, doing fly-bys (I've looked at your posting history), telling us what is what while having not one clue, doing nothing except pontificating nonsense that is more than harmful to this movement.

See, here is the problem with a guy like you. You make up your mind, based on a glaring lack of knowledge, that something is not important, and when challenged, presented with proof, you argue that the proof is not proof so that you can maintain your know-it-all argument.

Now, you asked for examples. I gave you examples, and you simply argue them away. Well here's 18 for you, and it took seconds to find.

Video game Women regarding such as "female only" screenings for Wonder Women

https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/female-only-screenings-of-wonder-woman-sexist.616321/

Now it is clear that you do not understand this movement at all (has nothing to do with jealousy of women, skip, and if you read my history, my participation on real MRA boards, you'd know that I'm a staunch supporter of getting women on board...and you could validate that through some of the notable names in this movement that know me). Go over and ask Elam, Ask Mike Buchanan, Elisabeth, Suzy. I've donated a ton of money to this movement, even helped produce this years video at the International Conference on Men's issues.

Not about that, its about the out-grouping derogation of men predicated upon such argument as the apex fallacy (which you are expressing here), failing completely to understand the "straw on the camels back" concept, or the continued removal of any and all male figures or role models, mens associations, and our very rights as humans..and this is just one more example.

Again, has nothing to do with female success, that's just feminist dogma that you've fallen for due to your lack of knowledge on the subject. It's not about "who has more" dummy. It's about replacing existing male franchises with female leads, taking over yet another male franchise, not having enough female leads..and that is exemplified by your argument that "there are plenty of male leads, and we can watch old movies". You are not even in the same ballpark here.

This is feminist agenda stuff, not about raising women up, but eliminating anything representing men (which, btw, women want no part of anymore. Both Pew and Gallup put the numbers at 85% of women disagreeing with today's feminism and it's continual "wrap-up smear tactic, or out-grouping of men.)..and women, clear thinking women, if you bother to talk to them, agree with me, not you on this subject.

it's just feminist hypocrisy, replacing male role models with females, or nothing at all. It's not unlike the invasion of men's clubs and organizations while also maintaining their "women only" using the same argument the declare void for men. Boy scouts would be a fine example. They claim a need for inclusion, invade the boy-scouts...and the first thing they do is create "girls only" troops that discriminate against boys in their own organization, all while demanding that no "boys only" exist. Martha Burke attacking Augusta while representing at least three groups that do not allow men.

So with that, do me a favor. Stop talking to me. I've had just about enough clueless people who fly by a men's board thinking they know something and pontificating as to how "we" are the problem with a movement they have not done squat to support....even as right after right of theirs is being swept away right before their eyes.

We are done here.

[–]annierosewood 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Even the cartoon movies are doing it. The Cars franchise passed the torch to a female lead. Toy Story did the same. Even the newest Incredibles movie focused on Mrs. Incredible.

Little boys are growing up in a female-dominated world. But it's not just female-dominated; it's anti-male. It's a hostile place for boys. It sucks. And I'm a woman. I see a terrible future for my sons if things don't change.

[–]DJ-Roukan 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women have been as timid about speaking up on these issues as men once were, mostly because they, like men, have been fed lie after lie as to what modern day feminism is. I'm seeing it daily as more and more become aware, more and more are speaking out because none of this is what women, beyond the silly college girl in a gender studies class, wanted as a final outcome...and they do not hate, but love men...and do not want their sons raised in a hostile environment.

Your voices are going to be vital, and, in fact, it is female MRAs leading the charge today. We are going to plow the road, but your participation is what will effect real change.

Thank you for the comment. Your voice matters, perhaps even more than you know.

I know this is gonna be unpopular opinion here but here i go. I saw the movie and its certainly not pro women and certainly not anti-male. It just shows group of certain characters do very bad things and the movie is not trying to say that these girls are heroes. Only reason we root for these women is becase they are portrayed as three dimensional characters and we do understand them. But the movie is not making excuses for the strippers and the strippers are not making excuses for themselves. If anything the movie is anti wall street. In some aspects it reminded me Social Network. Social network was a movie that showed every women character as a gold-digging whore and nobody complained. And the "hero" was unlikable nerd but we understood him. Same with hustlers. Wall street guys are assholes in the movie and our "heroes" are assholes too. But assholes we understand. Its a well made movie. I know its gonna be unpopular opinion here and if you disagree thats fine. I would just be careful about passing the judgement without seeing the movie. Have a nice day.

[–]ripyourlungsdave 18 points19 points20 points 6 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

The bigger problem I personally have with the film is that they hired Cardi B, an ex-stripper who actually did these things and worse, to play the role. I don’t know how you can pay someone who committed the crimes to be in a movie about committing these crimes without glamorizing or at least normalizing it. She’s gaining fame and money off of some truly horrendous things she did.

[–]SVKukas 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

I understand that and I think that is a FAIR point. Yes she is in this movie for about 3 minutes and as you said...she did those things. But I am honestly getting more and more jaded when it comes to these things. I still laugh at Louis Ck jokes. A saw movies from woody Allen or Polanski. I love earlier stuff from Mel Gibson...I try to separate art from artists. Am I jaded. Great that you are not.

[–]Zekuro 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Quote from the article :

No, the real slap in the face is that we are told, both by producer Lopez, director Lorene Scafaria, and by dozens of fawning reviews and articles, that this film somehow represents a triumph of feminism, because these are “empowered” women who are “reversing the roles” and “taking control,” that they are “Robin Hood thieves”sticking it to the man.

You can't totally separate "art" from "artist". Maybe you can find value and some satisfaction from watching the film and doing your own interpretation of it. It doesn't change that it was intended to be anti-male and that the people who made it declared it's a positive thing (even if we can't know their true thoughts). Point being, find value in this film if you must, but let's not forget what it was intended to be.

[–]SVKukas 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The movie represents triumph of feminism in a sense that it was made by women. Director, actors, producers and editor. And as a screenwriter myself I know how hard it is to make a movie. You know there is a very interesting part in a movie. One of the articles I read on this page is about men being raped. In the movie there is a sequence about men not reporting the crime and why. And it shows you how even the police treated those cases. Man calls to the police and said that he was drugged in a strip club and the police man hung up the phone immediately. There is a lot of talk about the movie because they wanna sell it but once you see it you will know its simply a movie about friendship and loneliness. That is what this movie was intended to be. There is really not anti man agenda in play here. I am man. I understand the society we live in and the point of this subreddit and it has a lot of value. But hating this movie feels icky to me. Because i saw it and i did not see anything it is being accused of. But i might be wrong. I usually am.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Surely you can find BETTER movies to declare feminist than this?

[–]omegaphallic 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

CK Loius did nothing wrong, and even the Woody Allen situation is more complex then it seems. I've heard his wife and so called victim speak, and she makes clear he's not the villian he's made out to be.

[–]SVKukas 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I support Louis but my only point was that we watch movies done by people with questionable morale all the time. Men or women. Sometimes we dont even know. Louic sk was just a name that popped up. Might be bad example.

[–]omegaphallic 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Understood.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

I still laugh at Louis Ck jokes.

The only crime Louis CK commited was indecency.

A saw movies from woody Allen

While creepy, in the end he married his STEPdaughter. Someone unrelated to his blood.

Also, allegations from Mya are still allegations. Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law applies here.

or Polanski.

That I will give you. He commited an actual crime of rape, escaped justice, and is too cowardly to come back and face the music.

I love earlier stuff from Mel Gibson

I'm not sure about raking Mel Gibson through the coals. He said some pretty mean-spirited, prejudicial stuff but I wouldn't want him blacklisted from work.

Cardi B openly admitted to drugging and robbing men. She BRAGS about it on social media. Gets offered work and continues her career instead of spending time in jail.

Only Roman Polanski is an equivalent basis of comparison.

[–]SVKukas 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I understand that some of these comparison are not really comparable with what Card B did. She is not a very good human being. My only point was and that we watch movies with people with questionable morale all the time. Those examples just popped into my head. I am sure a lot of male rappers have horrible history and we watch them in the movies as well - Ice Cube or Snoop Dog.

But ultimately I dont even wanna say anything nice about Cardi B. She should be in jail. All i wanted to say was that the movie Hustlers is in no shape or form anti man and its actually really well made and I thinks its a shame to overlook that just because of the logline.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

I understand where you're coming from. Yet, do you understand where detractors are coming from?

There have been a slew of movies forgoing character development in order to push a blatant agenda like "Girl Power". Ghostbusters: Answer The Call, The New Star Wars Trilogy, Men In Black: International are glaring examples of this. Where they take the meaning of female empowerment and express that in order for a woman to be independant, she has to step on men in the process. Thus, making all male supporting characters either doormats going along with everything she thinks, get lashed verbally for having an opinion, or physically assaulted for the same thing. They're always screwing up and she has to step in and clean up the mess while making mean-spirited, generalized statements about men as a whole. Look at the latest "Batwoman" trailer (TV show) for more blatant propaganda of this kind.

I, as a believer in old-fashioned storytelling, object to this and wonder what ever happened to female characters like Ellen Ripley and Sarah Conner? They were strong, independent, yet for some reason not one of them belittled men, shouted statements related to women's issues, nor were their male counterparts depicted as incompetent. Okay, that one scene in Terminator 2 where Sarah angrily, venomously generalizes men like Miles Dyson for not knowing how to CREATE life instead of destroy it but, get this, she was taken to task by her own son, John, the future leader of the resistance in the Judgement Day Wars.

You know why people responded so highly to them and consider them the definitive standard for all female characters to live up to? Because they had CHARACTER ARCS! They were FLAWED, VULNERABLE, and made mistakes. We empathized, sympathized and rooted for their survival.

It's like, what the hell happened since then?!? It's a disgrace!

That's where the disdain and loathing originates from.

I don't want to pre-judge a female character driven piece by female artists but it's really hard! The media certainly doesn't help either. Nor do the artists running their mouths on Twitter and Facebook.

Anyway, at least you acknowledge this trend is a problem. Thank you.

[–]SVKukas 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thank you for taking the time to write a thoughtful message. In my country which is Slovakia I am a screenwriter. I studied writing and characters and I completely agree. You cannot make female empowerment movie simply by changing characters from men to women and pretend that the women are better. You gave great examples of two good women characters in a action/horror movies.

I am the biggest fan of the show Buffy the Vampire slayer and Buffy is feminist icon but she was incredibly flawed and had no problem with men. What was so so feminist about that show was that the men had no problem with strong woman.

That is why its shocking to me the hate for this movie. I honestly blame marketing. I read the interview with the writer and director Lorene and she said that this movie is not intended to be female empowerment movie. Its a movie about female friendship and loneliness. And I agree after seeing it. There are really no male characters in this movie to speak of but I dont mind that. Focus was to show real women characters. Its more of a mob movie in a style of Goodfellas. These women are doing bad things and get even more cocky and even more flawed but we understand them because the writer took her time to show them as three dimensional as possible.

Logline might sound as women drugging men and taking all their money but it was more about financial crisis and all of the men are wall street guys who stole from the country. And yet we see in the movie that it is just an excuse. They just want the money.

Ultimately this is not a female empowerment movie its just a movie about flawed people doing horrible things. And thats a women things and thats a men thing.

Thank you again for a very well written response and sorry for my English.

[–]w1g2 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don't think the girlfriend in the beginning of the social network was presented as a gold-digging whore, she was presented as in the moral right. The female lawyer talking with Jesse Eisenberg wasn't a gold digging whore. The girlfriend of Eduardo wasn't a gold digging whore so much as crazy, which is nice considering it portrayed a girlfriend's actions as abusive to a boyfriend.

Maybe you mean the offhand comment of the twin brothers that they wanted to create a website with a collection of Harvard students because women like guys who go to Ivy Leagues? I think women wouldn't think twice about admitting that themselves.

But there's also a slew of movies created largely to portray men as bad, worthy of taking down specifically by women, which is why people here dislike it. There's really no movie created to portray women as bad worthy of taking down especially by men.

[–]SVKukas 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I was more talking about scene in the movie in a bus. All those girls going to the frat party and...you saw the movie. Y

es lawyer character and the girlfriend of Mark were great women characters. And in a hustlers there are men that are good too.

And you are right. There are movies like that. But having seen this one I wanted to say my piece that i dont think this movie is anti man. It is however anti wall street and if there were wall street chick into strip clubs these women would drug her too. At least that how these women are portrayed.

[–]omegaphallic 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nothing is unreasonable in your opinion. I haven't seen it, so I can't say.

[–]omegaphallic 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You know who absolutely fucking hates this movie? Strippers, like big time. I think these chicks should never go near a strip club again, I think they might find themselves unwelcome.

Is this legit, or just conjecture?

[–]omegaphallic 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's not universal, but its the general opinion I've noticed onthe Stripperweb forums.

Some are worried about it's triggering tons of clueless noobies thinking they are going to make thousands a night, others seem to be more worried it's going to make potential customers afraid of strippers. I think some are just general offended by depiction of strippers as thieves.

Stop playing the man, go after the ball instead.

I have no interest in American made Russian conspiracies.

Oh boy, you're serious... RT is literally a Russian paper aimed at promoting Russian interests. One of Russia's interests is sowing discord in America.

[–]omegaphallic -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

No, sowing discord is not in Russia's interest, that is American paranoia. How would it benifit Russia?

If you can't beat your enemy on the battlefield, go into your adversary, win over their populations and help elect officials that are sympathetic to the Russian viewpoint, and tie up your enemy, essentially, with politics and infighting so that they cannot resist you on the foreign policy playing field.

"They love things like 'America first,' because if everybody puts themselves first instead of their alliances first, that allows Russia to rise on the world stage."

But I think you knew that already and you're just being obtuse. Don't be obtuse, it's a bad look.

Oh, well, if one FBI guy says it, it MUST be true.

Stop pretending you're stupid.

What makes you think i'm pretending?

I don't think you're dumb enough to not understand why a nation would want to sabotage a rival.

[–]ThePigmanAgain[S] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sure, they might want to, and like all nations they probably ARE, but one man's word means nothing.

What? RT (Russia Today) is literally and openly Russian, state-run media aimed at an English-speaking audience (e.g., America). This is not a “theory.” The goal of RT is to further Russian interests. This is all open and undisputed. It is also known that the Russians have sought to weaken American society by exploiting preexisting fractures around class, race, and gender.

That does not make everything they write about automatically false (the best propaganda is based on truth, after all), but it is not a good look for this sub, or men’s movements in general, to be rallying around literal foreign propaganda.

Men's Rights know no borders, this not just an American sub.

And America media does enough damage to America, RT doesn't have to do anything.

Joseph McCarthy called -- he wants his paranoia back.
