"A mum who had sex with her 15-year-old son because he seduced her has avoided jail." "HE seduced HER"- so now a CHILD is to blame for his FIFTY year old mother raping HIM?? Because he is male? Can you BELIEVE the double standards boys & males now face??!!

I'd wear the skirt with nothing underneath. If anyone gets a glimpse and complained I'd say why can't you teach your girls not too objectify and shame boys for their apparel choices?

By the way, the headteacher is a woman. What a surprise.

Temperatures in the area forecast to be above 26 Celsius/79 Faranheit this week, and it's not the hottest months yet.

But no AC & 79°F sounds awful

[–]bufedad 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

79o now. Summer is just beginning. Furthermore, the classrooms are going to get hotter than that, simply because of the number of bodies and the greenhouse effect

What about kilts? I would wear one of these... and then get called out for appropriating Scottish culture.

[–]Rethgil[S] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That would honestly not be allowed by them-they were really specific and stated the boys HAD to choose between trousers for boys and skirts for girls.

The ones they offered that were specifically described.

They made a point of stating no other types were allowed. Its like they really were trying to strip the boys of any masculinity.

This is complete bullshit and feminization of boys, we need to complain to the government about this, i really don't understand why people just sit by and let stuff like this happen, im English and totally ashamed of this country now. We need a REVOLUTION

[–]Mac4491 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

and feminization of boys

Nobody is forcing them to wear skirts. It's just an acceptable option. They can still wear trousers.

We need a REVOLUTION

Calm down, V for Vendetta.

Look, the policy is stupid. Banning shorts makes no sense. But it's not a discriminatory policy and everyone just needs to calm down a minute.

If they had banned skirts I'm willing to bet that most people on this sub would be telling girls to just deal with it or wear shorts or trousers.

[–]tmone 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

It would be forcing boys to comply with a policy outside a gender norm. It is like saying to girls you are only allowed to wear swimming trunks not swimming costumes. I am sure that the policy will be found illegal.

If they had banned skirts I'm willing to bet that most people on this sub would be telling girls to just deal with it or wear shorts or trousers.

you mean like gender neutral shorts? somehow that would seem a lot less ridiculous than having boys where girl clothing.

i see you hopping allllll over the place regarding the topic in multiple threads apologizing for it. why? why is this your hill to die on? Why you are so adamant about ignoring these boys' feelings? Dare somebody actually feel bad for males. you admit it stupid. ok? so let people vent about what they want to vent about? you just like to argue it seems.

[–]Mac4491 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

outside a gender norm

Yeah, because they're being forced to wear skirts. /s

i see you hopping allllll over the place regarding the topic in multiple threads apologizing for it. why? why is this your hill to die on?

I could say the same to you as you've used the swimming trunks counter multiple times also, even though that would be completely different for a multitude of reasons.

I would just prefer if the sub focused on actual discriminatory laws, rules and policies and what can be done about them rather than trivial things like this. You know, real injustices.

People on this sub seem to be just as easily triggered as feminists when it comes to really unimportant topics. People can't even make joke memes about men without someone here jumping down their throats.

[–]tmone 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I could say the same to you as you've used the swimming trunks counter multiple times also, even though that would be completely different for a multitude of reasons.

and i have yet to have a response from you stating why.

Not the specific account you're using now but here's a response to a different account using the exact same argument with the exact same wording.

https://www.reddit.com/r/MensRights/comments/8ofdz6/skirts_are_cool_boys_are_told_school_bans_shorts/e031uiy/?context=3

Downvoted to oblivion but there you go.

[–]tmone -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

you say you want to fight the real injustices. and i agree. thats usually my line against fems. they have social problems (most of the time they are exaggerating. arguments could be made that they dont, but as an arguing device, i give them that) and men have system problems, ie, courts, penile, all that.

but what i say to you is this: do you not think that the reason men are so easily screwed over by society's many systems is in part a result of how they are treated by said societies?

in other words, i believe the feminization of society and boys as seen by this policy is directly related and mirrored to how men are treated by the institutions.

men arent taken seriously enough. we are laughed at and ridiculed. and now, if we want to be as comfortable as girls, we are forced to conform to gender roles outside the norm.

the feminization of society is damaging to young men.

[–]Rethgil[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Its clear the poster has an agenda and is trying to hide it, somewhat pathetically.

[–]bufedad 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Yes, they can wear pants... in classrooms that will reach 90o over the summer. Sure, nothing wrong with that.

[–]Mac4491 -3 points-2 points-1 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

It's a stupid policy, but it's not a men's rights issue.

[–]bufedad 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

So, just to be clear. Putting men's health in danger isn't a men's rights issue?

[–]Mac4491 -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

If anything it's a rights issue for both sexes. Girls that don't like wearing skirts but like wearing shorts are also affected.

I don't see anybody here caring about them.

Don't twist my words.

[–]bufedad -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

If anything it's a rights issue for both sexes. Girls that don't like wearing skirts but like wearing shorts are also affected.

Girls who have the option of being cooler in skirts aren't affected like boys who have to wear long pants.

I don't see anybody here caring about them.

You mean the ones who can be cooler while wearing skirts? That's like complaining that no one is caring about women in the justice system, who are already treated with kid gloves.

[–]Mac4491 -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I see you completely missed my point.

Alrighty then. I'm out.

[–]Rethgil[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm sure we'll see you back when enough hate of tone policers has died down for you to lurk again...

[–]bufedad 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Translation: You've presented an argument I cannot counter, so I'll pretend to take the high road.

[–]Rethgil[S] -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh you're so obviously full of it. Don't act as though you are some kind of authority on what is and what aren't men's rights.

If you had a clue or were a regular here you'd know the double standards expected of men compared to women are a regular and reasonable issue.

Tone policing is such an obvious mark of hidden agendas and often trolls

And having just briefly checked a couple of your other posts, you've LITERALLY said "we shouldn't be so rude because its what makes people think we're just a bunch of women haters".

Can you do anything other than tone police here?

[–]Red_Raven -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Pants aren't as comfortable as shorts in summer. This is designed for embarrass boys who don't want to sweat through their clothes. No way in hell would I want to hide my junk in a skirt. Or, fuck it. I'd pop a boner and strut all around that classroom. Fuck that bitch. Now she gets the consequences.

[–]Rethgil[S] -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Nobody is forcing them to wear skirts. It's just an acceptable option. They can still wear trousers.

No, they really are-either long trousers that are too hot, especially to play in break times in the playground in, or girls skirts. Kilts aren't an option. Shorts aren't.

They ARE forcing them. That's the point. Maybe you haven't read the story properly.

[–]Mac4491 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Maybe you haven't read the story properly.

If you can point me to a place in the article where it explicitly states that the boys are being forced to wear skirts and that there's no other options, then I'll concede.

I agree the policy is stupid but lets be rational and stop pretending this is something it isn't.

[–]Tedesche 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This isn't even sexist, it's just dumb.

[–]Rethgil[S] -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're right.

Your post was dumb.

(Couldn't resist, and hey, it was about as mature as your post)

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

Except they aren't saying that. They're adopting a new, stricter dress code that bans shorts. However, since it is gender neutral they can't ban boys from wearing skirts. They're not encouraging it.

[–]Sininenn 18 points19 points20 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The issue here is that while it is considered socially okay for a woman or a girl to wear either pants or a skirt, for men, skirts (not quilts), are not. So yeah, they aren't forcing boys to only wear pants de iure, but de facto.

[–]Rethgil[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Its also about ignoring basic rights of being male;

Its not practical or reasonable to treat boys in that way, expecting them to wear something inappropriate for the heat and activity in the playground.

Yet their masculinity is also being attacked by refusing to allow them a practical alternative, that of shorts, and instead outright telling them that if they get too hot, they should wear skirts.

Its also about the notable lack of care in the media as a response, whilst every instance of women being expected to dress in a way they don't like results in masses of headlines and intervention by officials.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

They're adopting a new, stricter dress code that bans shortsboys summer wear

FTFY.

Girls get at least three seasons uniforms: for winter they can wear pants or skirts with stockings, for summer they can just wear skirts. Boys just get to wear hot pants all year round.

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points-1 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Skirts are more within the realm of formal wear for women. Hey, I don't like that either, nor do I think this is good policy. I'd go so far as to say it's de facto sexist against boys. What it isn't is intentionally trying to discriminate against boys or, as the article tries to infer, force them into skirts.

[–]bufedad 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Formal wear? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard someone try to argue.

[–]Rethgil[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

How are they NOT being forced into skirts when its the o ly alternative allowed, as stated by the headmistress? In the heat, and considering the typical playground activities of boys?

It is discriminatory because it refuses to acknowledge the basic needs the boys have regarding the heat, with the social context that whilst girls wearing trousers are seen as OK, boys wearing skirts are not.

It gives unequal options for girls whilst ignoring basic equal needs of boys. And as stated, it could further be argued the boys have greater need for wearing something cooler, due to playground activity

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Has even a single boy actually done so?

I agree it's discriminatory against boys. I think it's a dumb concession to an increasingly outmoded sense of propriety. What it isn't doing is encouraging them to wear skirts.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

But why in the world can't they just say that girls can wear shorts as well?

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Because British.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ah. Ha Ha!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

And they don't have shorts licenses?!

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This is a great example of a policy that is sexist in practice without intentionally being sexist.

[–]Rethgil[S] -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well I've searched and searched, but I just couldn't find a single thing in Men's Rights that you agreed with.

I had a good go at it, I really did.

But all I saw of your posting was sarcastically passive aggressively trying to rubbish every Original Post you engaged with....

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Prison reform, underrepresentation of different kinds of positive masculinity, schools not always being well-suited towards the ways of learning more common to boys, shaming of male domestic violence survivors, agreeing women should be drafted (or the draft should be removed from men), etc.

[–]Rethgil[S] -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because feminist society.

[–]Rethgil[S] -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The headmistress LITERALLY said "the boys can wear skirts if the trousers are too hot for them".

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Actually, the interaction went more like,

"I know that in the past other schools have worn skirts so I asked if my son was able to do that - and the school said yes."

They're not encouraging boys to wear skirts. They're wanting them to wear trousers.

[–]420weedscopes 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wow when a man wheres it, its a kilt

[–]HovisTMM 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If they wanted a gender neutral policy then surely banning skirts and allowing shorts makes way more sense?

[–]shaggy99 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I hope the boys do wear skirts, they will find out how comfortable they are.

[–]ALTSuzzxingcoh 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Your own fault for sending your kids to schools that force them to wear specific clothing. There's nothing wrong with a t-shirt and shorts or jeans, unless you're a stuck-up old puritan or think that lowering your child's status and robbing him of his freedom to appease to poor people that can't be bothered to wash their clothes and take a shower is ok.

If you live in an area that homes people who can't afford to dress their children, you're in much bigger trouble than kids getting bullied because of that. I'd never force my kids to wear some victorian-era outfit because old grey admin people think that's fancy. If you're in school all day, you want to wear normal clothes and feel comfortable.

[–]linklight127 -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I absolutely don't understand the logic. Whats wrong with a respectable pair of cargo shorts?

[–]Mac4491 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's the UK. Cargo shorts would not be a respectable part of any school uniform policy.

[–]xNOM 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's a school uniform. The point is to not look like you're in Walmart. But there are uniforms with nicer shorts -- think Angus Young. It just looks odd on older kids.
