Holy shit she was found not guilty of murder according to the article.. how is that possible? How is this allowed? She just plain out shot a fleeing guy. What a disgrace of the justice system. Bizarre.

In the video, you can see Williams walk into the bond's office and takes a seat.

Later in the video, Carey gets up and locks the door and tells Williams to put his hands behind his back.

Williams tries to walk away and he asks "Why are you doing this for?"

He then makes his way over to a balcony window, which you can't see on camera.

Carey then grabs her gun from her drawer and shoots Williams in the back.

So she loans a guy money to make bail. The guy shows up so she can take him to court (so she gets her bail money back). For some reason he freaks out and starts running (shock, horror, remind me again why bounty hunters exist?). She then shoots him in the back.

This is on the prosecution, neither the defendant nor the jury. First-degree murder requires forethought, deliberation - this was a hasty shooting with no prior planning. Therefore she is definitely not guilty of first-degree murder.

Intent:

In terms of willfulness, first degree murderers must have the specific intent to end a human life. This intent does not necessarily have to correspond to the actual victim. A murder in which the killer intends to kill but kills the wrong person or a random person would still constitute first degree murder. Furthermore, under many state laws, killing through action showing a depraved indifference to human life can qualify as murder in the first degree.

Deliberation and Premeditation:

Whether a killer acted with the deliberation and premeditation required for first degree murder can only be determined on a case by case basis. The need for deliberation and premeditation does not mean that the perpetrator must contemplate at length or plan far ahead of the murder. Time enough to form the conscious intent to kill and then act on it after enough time for a reasonable person to second guess the decision typically suffices. While this can happen very quickly, deliberation and premeditation must occur before, and not at the same time as, the act of killing.

"Malice Aforethought":

Under many state laws, perpetrators of first degree murder must have acted with malice or "malice aforethought." Malice generally includes an evil disposition or purpose and an indifference to human life. States treat the concept of "malice" differently. Under some laws, malice aforethought essentially means the same thing as acting with a premeditated intent to kill or extreme indifference to human life. Other states require a showing of malice distinct from the willfulness, deliberation and premeditation generally required for first degree murder.

She isn't guilty of first degree murder, why was she even charged with that? It doesn't fit her case. She is guilty of manslaughter.

In voluntary manslaughter, the offender had no prior intent to kill and acted in "the moment", under circumstances that could cause a reasonable person to become emotionally or mentally disturbed. Examples could include a defender killing a home invader without being placed in a life or death situation.[2] There are mitigating circumstances that reduce culpability, or when the defendant kills only with an intent to cause serious bodily harm.[3] Voluntary manslaughter in some jurisdictions is a lesser included offense of murder. The traditional mitigating factor was provocation; however, others have been added in various jurisdictions.

The US are fucked up, she should be behind bars.

Not acquitted due to her gender though. More likely she was acquitted, because she was a bond agent, and LE/judiciary protect their own.
