Someone has died and lives have been ruined, so yes it's out of control. Ordinary people might not be buying in, but enough people in positions of power are.

I agree with the article. I've been questioning myself and my own actions even more now. I consider myself "a good guy" and this causes my outward actions to be even more controlled and as the article put it treating women asexually. The #metoo movement is going to have far flung consequences that the women who complain of sexual harassment just because they were hit on do not see yet. Maybe in the future the only way to actually hook up with someone will be on Tinder or Craigslist. This movement is stripping away the natural course of sexual attraction. In this world the predators and Weinsteins will thrive while the good guys will be left behind.

This article tracks very well with what I have observed. A woman whom I have very minimal interactions with posted a notme stating she had not been harassed. She followed up days later with an article claiming that men don't have to be afraid of workplace interactions with women, they just have to stop sexually harassing them. She followed up days later with a metoo citing a previously forgotten incident and suggested we should be doing a better job of policing male behaviour. I called her out on the destructive path she seamed to be heading down. While she did get defensive she was much more civil then her "friends" who became as insulting as possible.

Someone once touched my knee at work, we're now married with two kids but it could have been harassment at the time. We're animals and we display courtship in this way, you can't retrain nature.

Moral Panic
Moral Panic - a condition that responds to a threat to established values or interests. The condition is analyzed and diagnosed by various spokespersons and experts, who make moral pronouncements and become the focus of sensationalized media coverage. Societal responses may lead to either subsidence or exacerbation of the situation.

The phrase “ moral panic ” was initially coined by Jock Young in an essay in Stanley Cohen's Images of Deviance ( Cohen, 1971 ) and was subsequently developed theoretically and applied empirically in Cohen's Folk Devils and Moral Panics ( Cohen, 2002 [1972]).

According to Erich Goode and Norman Ben Yehuda (1994), moral panics are societal reactions to perceived threats that are characterized by several features.

First is their volatility, seen in their sudden appearance and rapid spread among large sections of the population via mass media, followed by a rapid decline in further instances of the problem.

Second is the growth of experts who are claimed authorities in discerning cases of the feared behavior.

Third, there is an increased identification of cases of the behavior that build into a ‘‘wave.’’

Fourth, hostility and persecution are directed toward the accused, seen now as enemies of society.

Fifth, measurement is made of society’s concern through attitude surveys.

Sixth, consensus is established about the seriousness of the threat.

Seventh, there is a disproportionate fear of the threat relative to evidence of actual harm.

Eighth, a backlash occurs against the persecution.

Finally, there is an exposure of the flaws in identifying the problem. An excellent illustration is found in Jeffrey Victor’s study of satanic ritualistic child abuse in his book Satanic Panic (1993).

While this reads as a good article, is it really getting out of control? Yes I know, we've got the usual lunatics we're used to now going after people over the most innocent bullshit but I have barely noticed their presence on the internet or even in the media.

If anything it almost seems contained, just the usual SJWs looking to cash in on the panic but it doesn't seem like people are buying into this shit the way they used to, even mainstream media that would normally jump on this sort of political tantrum by them has only mentioned it a few times when back in the days of things like gamergate and so on it would be spammed across the world and regarded as an international event.

I've actually been a bit bemused by the lack of hysteria from them on this, though it could be because it's mostly something happening in left wing circles and the wiser amongst them are keeping their heads down.

In my opinion you are seeing that wrong. I have been pleasantly surprised at how serious people have reacted to stories of men who had been victim of rape or groping. In my youth people simply were not even aware that men could be raped really. I know there haven't been that many stories from men raped by women (although I will welcome such stories), but I feel that at this rate and with this level of acceptance by the public, it shouldn't be far away where men will feel free to tell about such experiences also.
