Study finds that when all conditions are identical, female applicants are favored over male applicants by 2:1 for STEM tenure. This wouldn't be possible in a system with systemic male privilege!

so wage gap still or nah?

[–]TheBookOfSeil 32 points33 points34 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Nah. Probably never really was. However, if this shift results in a future wage gap with men on the lower-earning side, it will be denied that it exists, or nobody will care. Funny how things work, huh?

[–]The__Tren__Train 27 points28 points29 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

women will still be claiming victimhood tho

[–][deleted] 22 points23 points24 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

They already are: read all these articles about 40 year old career women who can't find a good enough man (meaning a richer man than them).

[–]The__Tren__Train 14 points15 points16 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

oh I see them bro, I see them every...single.. day.

it's crazy when you take a step back and look at it. it's like a never ending attack on men.

-men are pigs #KillAllMen lolz

-men need to man up and acknowledge their privilege!!!

-where have all the good men gone?? men need to man up and get married!

[–]TheBookOfSeil 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Only if we take it all back ;-)

[–]GothicDreamScape 28 points29 points30 points 8 years ago (156 children) | Copy Link

The real tragedy here is that these women won't be able to find mates that earn more than they do. ;)

I suppose a MGTOW type wouldn't really care about these stats. Let women be the breadwinners. Men can simply do the bare minimum of work and enjoy life for once instead of being disposable workhorses. It will suck for society (and women) since men are responsible for almost all innovation and essential labor, but perhaps a culture this deranged doesn't deserve to survive.

Women's work is just as valuable as men's work.

[–]ddtim 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (104 children) | Copy Link

I absolutely agree. A Massage Therapist is just as essential to society as an Electrician.

[+]VodkaKitty1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (103 children) | Copy Link

Women are prominent in fields such as nursing, teaching, social work, therapy, counseling, medical, etc, all of which are incredibly important to society. You could reverse the genders and make jokes about how comedians are just as important as nurses.

[–]ShadowMario01 13 points14 points15 points 8 years ago (50 children) | Copy Link

I don't even know where to start with that comparison.

How about this? When roads need repairing, I don't see a social worker doing the hard labor.

If your roof needs fixing, is a teacher going to patch it up?

Most trades and manual labor jobs are dominated by men, and such jobs are vital to infrastructure, as well as being necessary in everyday contracting.

Granted, nurses and teachers are amazing jobs, and we couldn't get by without them, but these fields see a larger degree of men than trade jobs do women.

[+]VodkaKitty1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (49 children) | Copy Link

How about this? When you get in an accident, who's going to be taking care of you? I don't see road repairmen giving people stitches and administering IVs.

When you're depressed and need a therapist, is a roof repairman going to be the one doing that? No.

Your logic is nonsensical.

https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2017/03/06/chart-the-percentage-women-and-men-each-profession/GBX22YsWl0XaeHghwXfE4H/story.html

Firefighters: 3.5% women, 96.5% men

Emergency medical technicians and paramedics: 35.7% women, 64.3% men

Physicians and surgeons: 38.2% women, 61.9% men

I guess if I'm in an accident, I'm more likely to be rescued and taken care of by a man than a woman...

When you're depressed and need a therapist, is a roof repairman going to be the one doing that? No.

https://psmag.com/social-justice/why-wont-men-get-help-42910

https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/statistics/mental-health-statistics-men-and-women

That's a real issue: men are very less likely to seek help from a mental health specialist. That's why, even though more women suffer from mental health issues, 3 out of 4 suicide is made by men.

Unfortunately, there are more women working is the mental health field because the main audience is also women.

Your logic is nonsensical.

If you look the first link I provided, you'll see that almost every jobs that are essential for our society to function is dominated by men. Women are more likely working in non essential fields...

[+]VodkaKitty1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (11 children) | Copy Link

Look, your logic was that teachers don't repair roads and nurses don't fix roofs. Road repairmen also aren't teachers and roof repairmen also aren't nurses and electricians also aren't therapists. You're going off on a totally unrelated tangent here.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

u/ShadowMario01 arguments worked since social workers are mostly women and women can't repair roads, and teachers are mostly women and women can't fix roof. It was a gender argument, with examples to illustrate.

I just continued with the gender difference in fields.

The point is that men (of which there are huge numbers of unemployed) could easily do those jobs. Women simply aren't capable of doing many of the jobs that men perform. If you limited your argument to "have babies and nurture very young babies" you would actually be right, but the idea that females are equally necessary in the workplace is just completely delusional.

[+]VodkaKitty1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (26 children) | Copy Link

the idea that females are equally necessary in the workplace is just completely delusional.

Lol what? Okay buddy. Take away all the nurses, teachers, daycare workers, therapists, medical professionals, social workers, etc. and see where society ends up.

[–]GothicDreamScape 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (25 children) | Copy Link

You seem to be missing the point. Men can perform all of those jobs while women are physically (and possibly mentally) incapable of performing many of the jobs that men perform. You should be thanking men for keeping you safe and comfortable, and you should also thank fate for making you the privileged sex.

What jobs are women mentally incapable of performing? You do realize that men and women both have the same average IQ, right?

You should be thanking men for keeping you safe and comfortable, and you should also thank fate for making you the privileged sex.

You should be thanking women for the jobs that we do. :)

Actually, I already pointed out that nurses are also invaluable to society, however the same cannot be said for therapists, particularly for anything non-clinical. Having suffered a brief bout of debilitating depression, I found that the answers were easy, but the execution was difficult.

My point was that there is a higher percentage of men in health care, teaching, etc. than there is women in trades and other labor intensive jobs.

And just because you're annoying me now, yes, a nurse will take care of me. But so will paramedics, a doctor, possibly surgeon, any of which could be a man, or a woman, it doesn't matter. As long as they can do their job right.

So physical health is invaluable to society, but mental health is not? What the...

My point was that there is a higher percentage of men in health care, teaching, etc. than there is women in trades and other labor intensive jobs.

That doesn't matter. We're talking about female dominated fields vs. male dominated fields. Nursing and teaching are still seen as "women's work" even though there are men in nursing and teaching.

And just because you're annoying me now, yes, a nurse will take care of me. But so will paramedics, a doctor, possibly surgeon, any of which could be a man, or a woman, it doesn't matter. As long as they can do their job right.

Paramedics have very little medical training and can't do anywhere near as much as a nurse can. Doctors are also becoming female dominated.

[–]ShadowMario01 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Physical health takes priority over mental. Go to any hospital. They serve people according to a heiarchy, and unless someone is so mentally ill that they'll cause themselves PHYSICAL harm, it's a long wait. (Canadian BTW).

And no debate that the general consensus on nursing is it being female dominated, but there are many male nurses now, mostly due to a surge in healthcare needs and an aging population. Teaching is dominated by women in the lower grades, with children. However, male presence climbs in high school and post-secondary education. The general assumption society has is that a professor is male.

And I'm not saying this out of anger, but out of shock and disbelief:

ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MIND? Paramedics are trained to specialize in on-site health care and resuscitation, and to get the patient to a hospital as quickly and safely as possible. You think a fucking nurse or doctor can do anything at the site of an accident? Basic first aid, CPR, and assisting paramedics.

Paramedics save lives. Think about what first responders do before you decide to run your mouth

[+]VodkaKitty1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

And who are most physical healthcare professionals? Oh wait, women.

You think a fucking nurse or doctor can do anything at the site of an accident? Basic first aid, CPR, and assisting paramedics.

Nurses and doctors absolutely do more than paramedics, yes. They are much more educated than paramedics in the medical profession.

[–]GothicDreamScape 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (51 children) | Copy Link

Put it this way: if women took a week it would cause a major headache. If men took a week off civilization would collapse. I agree that nursing is essential.

The other point, as mentioned, is that men are responsible for 99 percent of innovation. It's been decades since women started entering STEM fields in large numbers and men still file the vast majority of patents. The vast majority of geniuses are men.

I would agree that traditional women's work (raising children in the home) is just as important, but most (?) women don't really do that anymore. They work for corporations and, when they do have kids, send them to school/daycare, ie children are mostly raised by the state and often without fathers at all.

[+]VodkaKitty1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (50 children) | Copy Link

...What? Daycare is funded by the state? What country do you live in because it certainly isn't America LOL. And who are the ones taking care of the kids in school and daycare? Men?

[–]GothicDreamScape 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (31 children) | Copy Link

And who are the ones taking care of the kids in school and daycare?

Not their mothers, that's for sure.

Men?

Men would certainly have no problem doing so. Women might have a hard time working on oil rigs. Women are essential for reproduction and breast feeding. Men are essential for maintaining and advancing civilization.

[+]VodkaKitty1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (30 children) | Copy Link

Not their mothers, that's for sure.

Okay, but women are. Not some genderless "the state."

Men would certainly have no problem doing so. Women might have a hard time working on oil rigs.

Then why don't men choose to go into these fields?

Women are essential for reproduction and breast feeding. Men are essential for maintaining and advancing civilization.

Men are also essential for reproduction and women are also essential for maintaining and advancing civilization.

[–]GothicDreamScape 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (29 children) | Copy Link

Then why don't men choose to go into these fields?

Because the pay sucks and they don't want to be accused of being pedophiles.

women are also essential for maintaining and advancing civilization

When it comes to breast feeding and early child rearing, yes.

edit: word

[–]ShadowMario01 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think we're being a dead horse here. I say downvote and ignore. Let her delude herself

[+]VodkaKitty1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (26 children) | Copy Link

So women are okay with taking lower pay if it means helping others. Men aren't. Men are more motivated by money.

When it comes to early breast feeding and early child rearing, yes.

When it comes to many professions, yes. Do you seriously think that no female dominated jobs are necessary for civilization? What would happen if no nurses showed up to work for a week?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

When GothicDreamScape says "children are mostly raised by the state" it means that since mother are more and more working, the children are raised by school teachers and daycare workers because the children spend the bulk of the day with these people instead of the parents.

Do you think that a mother can be replaced by random women professionals and it makes not differences whatsoever for the children?

[+]VodkaKitty1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (16 children) | Copy Link

He was saying that traditional women's work was important (raising kids), but now women have corporate jobs and send their kids to school and daycare, which is ignoring the fact that schools and daycares are, in fact, women's work.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

Children needs their mother, not some random women as substitute. And yes, being a mother who takes care of her children (not working in a corporation instead) is a very important job for the future of society.

[+]VodkaKitty1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (14 children) | Copy Link

But kids don't need their father? Sounds like you're a misandrist. Shouldn't men be with their children instead of working in some corporation?

Btw I had a nanny and loved her, so your point is moot.

http://judgybitch.com/2013/09/17/what-would-happen-if-no-men-showed-up-for-work-today/

Unfortunately, most essential professions for the society to work are still dominated by men. And not because these jobs are fancy and men wants to keep women out, but because these jobs are laborious / dirty / dangerous and women don't want or don't have the physical capabilities to work there.

Honestly, providing and maintaining infrastructure, water and electricity is essential. If this came to an end, it would be total havoc withing a few days.

I consider teacher, social worker and therapist as luxury in comparison. We could easily make do without those for several weeks or months.

There are fields where women are majority and that are essential though, like nursing, but they are exception compared to the opposite. We could totally make do for months without dentists, dietitians, therapists, massage therapists, and most medical fields where women are a majority...

I never said otherwise.

I consider teacher, social worker and therapist as luxury in comparison. We could easily make do without those for several weeks.

Maybe a few weeks. Definitely not a few years. Also, I disagree. Social workers collectively not coming to work for a few weeks would mean that children in abusive homes would endure many more weeks of rape/beating/abuse than they otherwise would have.

There are fields where women are majority and that are essential though, like nursing and certain medical fields, but they are exception compared to the opposite.

Lol I guarantee you that most men are not working essential fields either. Most men are working menial desk jobs or factory jobs like the rest of us.

Most men are not working essential fields, but most essential fields are worked by a large majority of men. Meaning that overall, men's workforce is more valuable than women's workforce.

Women’s educational gains are outpacing men. They are more likely to have a college degree

Likely because many men are dropping out of/not going to college out a fear of their lives destroyed by false accusations and college kangaroo courts.

More millennial men are earning less, even with the gender pay gap in their favor, the U.S. Census Bureau reports.

Then it's bullshit. The gender pay gap. In their favor.

[+]WhyDoBirdsAppear1 points 8 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

The gender pay gap. In their favor.

There is no gender pay gap. Men are just choosing not to go to college and are doing lower paid trade jobs, they're using their increased upper body strength, which is biological. Men are less likely to want to sit around and focus on academics and they want to burn off energy, this isn't valued by employers so much. Trade jobs won't pay as much as jobs that require a degree. Any wage gap for young men is based on their choices not any discrimination. So it isn't real.
