So my friend was imprisoned for 5-10 years for, I want to say assault or domestic violence. But I feel like it was kinda bullshit.

For starters, this was all on tape. So my friend hears his son scream and runs into the room. He finds his GF, drunk, on top of his 7 year old son beating the shit out of him(his face too). He runs and tackles her off the kid, grabs his kid and runs. The cops show up before he gets away. After evaluating the situation they arrest him and send him to jail for assault(or domestic violence) because when he tackled her he broke her rib and punctured her lung. And she gets to press charges...

Why did he get in trouble? It's all on tape and you can see, and hear, what happens. He was just protecting his son. Yet he gets fucked for life? Can someone explain this to me? I'm almost 100% positive that if the genders were reversed things would have played out a lot differently.

I saw something the other day of a dad beating the shit out of a guy who he walked in on raping his son and the dad fucked that guy up, really, really bad. And the dad got nothing against him. Now I know rape and assault are two different things, but that dad kept going til the guy was unconscious in a puddle of his own blood. My friend just tackled somebody, it just happened to do some major damage. But it's not like it was intended like the dad's was. So why does my friend get fucked over so bad?
