Circumcision "Intactists" don't want you (or your kids) to get snipped.

Remember the NY Post article last week by the woman who said Intactivists and the men who are upset they were circumcised without their consent should find new hobbies because she prefers how 'snipped' ones look? She decided to mock the people who emailed her about it in her Oscars article...

Good. It's about fucking time people took the fact that we literally cut off parts of infant penis seriously and stopped using it as a punchline in jokes.

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points16 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Most mammals have one and there is a reason to have it.

LMAO, it does prevent cancer though, the same way removing one of your kidneys makes you 100% less likely yo get cancer in that kidney, because it's no longer there.

Prevents a cancer that is already extremely rare. You'd have a better success rate of removing little girl's breast buds to prevent breast cancer than removing boy's foreskins to prevent penile cancer.

The comments on the article are definitely encouraging

And of course The Independent can't even be bothered to treat these same things the same in their own headline... "circumcision" vs "genital mutilation"

I am an MRA and an anti-feminist, but the only thing i don't agree with is this. Obviously both male and female genital mutilation hurt, but isn't male genital mutilation practiced because of the christian practice? I want to change my mind but i can't unless i have a valid fact behind it.

[–]Oklawolf 11 points12 points13 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

They have a bunch of BS excuses to keep doing it, but Christianity isn't usually one of them unless the person is poorly informed. Most Christians believe the whole Jesus dying on the cross thing was the last blood sacrifice.

As a circumcised Christian preacher's kid, had the folks told me religion was the reason I was done, I would have stopped talking to them. I cannot stand people who force religion on others.

[–]zyk0s 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's mainly a Jewish and Muslim practice, not a Christian one. The only reason it's so prevalent in the US is that some doctor at some point recommended it to curb masturbation. But I don't see the relevance. FGM is likewise a religious practice, only performed by a fraction of muslims. Does mutilation become ok because it's a mainstream religious practice?

isn't male genital mutilation practiced because of the christian practice

I am not sure how that matters in the slightest. Genital mutilation is genital mutilation regardless of the motivation behind said mutilation.

When I have a kid Ima say that I created a religion that says all newborns should have their thumbs cut off so that we are no longer superior species. When they say "no," I am going to claim it violates freedom of religion.

[–]the_unseen_one 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

You need enough followers to get away with citing freedom of religion for mutilations. If you're too small, you're just a cult, but once you get big enough you're a real religion and entitled to your "rights".

[–]Gamogi 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Wanna join my religion, it's called "Why is this a thing." It requires no changes to your daily life, but all sons (and only sons) have to have their thumbs cut off, adults do not.

[–]the_unseen_one 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I'm never breeding, so why not?

[–]Gamogi 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

There's one, this might be easier than I thought, anyone else want to claim to join?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'll join.

[–]Gamogi 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

3 people seems like enough to claim a religion

[+]limetree747747 points 9 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Well if it was done because of the christian practice it couldn't really be compared to female genital mutilation since there is no female genital mutilation mentioned in the bible.

[–]the_unseen_one 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh, I see what you are getting at.

[–]contractor808 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Depends. Globally, no. Christianity doesn't promote male genital cutting. However, in the US, the idea that masturbation should be curbed may have come from Christianity and that was the justification of mgm in early days. In the US it is not done for religious reasons unless someone is Jewish or Muslim.

[–]VaguelyFamiliarMan 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Christians are told in clear, concise, explicit terms not to practice circumcision.

[+]how_cansheslap -7 points-6 points-5 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

The female equivilent to male circumcision is labiaplasty, something women do all the time.

"female circumcision" = cutting off clitoris

[–]Burninglegion65 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not really. A lot of the people are wanting to perform the "pinprick" which is theoretically harmless as it's a prick which should only draw a drop of blood. Some African tribes do only remove the labia as well.

Having to go through four lectures on the topic at least showed that it's not all the insane measures typically described. There are though truly truly disgusting levels as well where not only is pretty much all sensitive exterior portions removed but it's down nearly closed as well.

The more interesting part is how it goes into their culture. The women feel as a group similar to circumcised men. "It was done to my mother and her grandmother" or the many men you find wanting their sons genitals to be the same as theirs. They don't see it as bad or wrong. External societies have labelled their practises as such.

As my human rights lecturer (why was I forced to take this class as an engineering student...) posed: what is more correct, their culture which has the women at 16 willingly performing it or our views on it being wrong being applied to them. Could you say to all Jewish people to stop circumcision? The damage may not be the same but to them it's the same thing.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

something women do all the time.

Out of their own choice. If a woman wants to get labiaplasty or a man wants to get circumcised when they are adults then they can knock themselves the fuck out. But performing labiaplasty or circumcision on an unconsenting infant is not only creepy but also child abuse.

[–]how_cansheslap 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Do you consider ear piercings child abuse?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well first off, piercing a child's ear and cutting off part of it's sexual organ is two very different things. Second, I would say that parents should probably wait for the kid to at give consent (12 or 13ish) before they pierce their ears, but I'm not going to throw a fit about it.

Ear piercing can also heal and close up while circumcision is permanent and affects how the male feels and experiences sex for the rest of his life. Would you be okay with parents getting their infant daughter labiaplasty?
