Somehow this is much worse than if it didn't have parentheses. I guess because it strongly implies that violence can only be male and that male violence is a tautology, while without parentheses it at the very least could be interpreted as referring to a subset of violence.

How about simply not signing up for the meetings? Make sure to document the extremely low turnout throughout the nine week period(however that could be done), and share that info with this 'Men's Project'. If it's pretty much a room full of empty seats, they might not want to bother doing it again.
