Ontario, Tuesday. Now legal for men to absolve themselves from parental role prior to impregnating a woman by signing a pre-sex waiver. Bill 28 "All Families are Equal Act", passed today, makes this legal as of Jan 1, 2017.

Rempel... called Nenshi’s remarks condescending.

Because they were. He effectively called her a moron. She called him a sexist.

Politicians who play gender politics are the worst.

[–]whelponry 12 points13 points14 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Michelle Rempel is sexist. There is no debate on this.

That she would bring something like this up is as a total non sequitur is precisely the type of thing that someone who is sexist against men and would take advantage of such outrage. In fact, it is also taking advantage of a false and continually perpertrated stereotype of men that men supposedly believe women are incapable of math.

Finally, I despise the MSM for once again not only failing to call out these points but also for falsely perpetuating these stereotypes and causing controversy where there should have been none.

[–]omegaphallic 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

As someone who is familiar with Michelle Rempel, she can be a moron sometimes, so that not gender based. And it was more a shot at the Tory government that she was apart of then just her.

And the comment likely tied back to the comment former Premier Jim Prentice made about the NDP during the debates, where he said something similar to the NDP leader and now Premier Rachel Notley.

[–]Lethn 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The problem is it's only women who can use their gender as a way of silencing legitimate criticism, sorry girls, but that's a fact. It seems that men have been so guilt tripped about how their 'ancestors' treated women by feminists for so long they're incapable of answering back when they use this tactic.

People need to get over history and realise they're not responsible for anything their ancestors may or may not have potentially did like feminists like to claim.

[–]Lethn 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Was going to write a lengthier reply but I do think that's all that needs to be said on these types of subjects anymore, she's using her gender to try and shut him up, that's all there is to it.

[–]McFeely_Smackup 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He deliberately insulted her...she thinks being a woman means every insult is "sexist".

I don't see a lot of moral high ground on either side, but I'd take the guy who went for an intellectual insult rather than playing the gender victim card.

[–]Lupinfujiko 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

He was being condescending. And she was playing the gender card. I think both mean well, but both come off looking a little bit opportunistic here.

[–]Findingmorty 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I can't even imagine saying that to an economist or the rage they must feel after.

[–]Machnow[S] 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

problem is...there are no other, better choices. I weep for Albertans...they are screwed.

[–]rg57 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh suck it up Alberta. You're not Ontario. Our choices are a toddler, a toddler, and another toddler.

[–]omegaphallic 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Premier Rachel Notley is the best Premier in Canada, and she is succeeding where previous Tory Premiers failed, in extremely difficult circumstances beyond her control. Your lucky to have her.

[–]homer1969 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She is capable, but any and all criticism of Rachel or her female ministers is quickly twisted by their minions into attacks on womanhood.

[+]17062995 points 9 years ago [recovered] (5 children) | Copy Link

You obviously don't live in Alberta, Rachel notley is a terrible premier, us Albertans are counting down the days until she is out of office

[–]Myfeelzarespecial 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

i think that was Rachel Notley

[–]TheSummerain 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Well I do live in Alberta and I think they are doing a good job.

Some bumps on the road so far, but to be expected from a new government.

And based on the choices we have...the NDP are the only choice.

[–]17062995 -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Well I guess we will see about that next election, I can't imagine you support the carbon tax? When you're born on gold you don't try and devalue it, like the ndp has to our oil.

[–]TheSummerain 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Absolutely I support the Carbon tax, it's really minor and people are blowing it out of proportion.

I am happy we voted out the PC'S and as long as the WR stays how it is and keeps the same lake of fire people in its party they will continue to lose.

I lived through the Klein years, not willing to go back to those cut backs just to have those "savings" come back and bite in the ass 20 years later.

[–]170629951 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Taxing things that are crucial to people's livelihood? Go fuck yourself if you support a tax that means absolutely 0 to anything, especially a thing that makes Alberta the most profitable province in Canada I feel like a less intelligent person responding you.

[–]by_myself 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I would like to vote a dog into office next election. Dogs are awesome, they play fetch, they're so humble they'll drink out of the toilet, and they never say anything insanely stupid. I'm sick of human leaders, it's time for the real four-legged dogs to rise to power instead of the bitches we have now.

[–]Flash-Lightning 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes she did use the Sexist card which is awful. It's like left labeling anyone with right wing views as a racist. In this circumstance she was in the right for sticking up for her constituents as a tax hike in the middle of a recession. But still, call the guy a prick and tell him to cut services, don't slander the guy a sexist. He's obviously not and now the point she was trying to make is lost in gender baiting he said/she said.

[–]locks_are_paranoid 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Raising taxes on small businesses is a terrible policy.

[–]omegaphallic 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

His point was that he doesn't have much choice in the matter, but he's trying to minimize the negative impact on struggling small businesses.

[–]MagicTampon 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I prefer to call it "damseling shithead" behavior. Though I suppose the term would gain more traction if I used some word other than "shithead."

Bottom line though, it is the real-life damsel-in-distress trope, employed endlessly in a vicious cycle to achieve a status of social entitlement.

Right on.

White women: already the most entitled overall demographic of human beings on the face of the planet, yet unfortunately, frequently still complaining as if it were otherwise.

[–]rg57 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Nenshi was way out of line (and out of character, for what he likes to present as the "good" Muslim).

Economists aren't unusually good at math, but they do have to know some. I'm quite confident Rempel knew what she was talking about.

[–]omegaphallic 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That makes one of us, I'm not a Michelle Rempel fan.

[–]medfunguy 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Knowing economics and knowing a city's reality are two different things. I love my MP and MPP, but the fact remains that they wouldn't know the realities I deal with at the municipal level, because that's not their reality. There's things happening all the time that we end up having to react to. And Nenshi isn't wrong in saying that he "can't run deficits." But he is wrong in claiming that the Great Recession Tories did a shabby job.
