Okay, so what determines when it's cultural appropriation? Is there some specific melanin level that you need to exceed in order to be allowed to have dreads? Or to enjoy anything associated with "black culture"?

At what point does it become cultural appropriation? Say my grandfather was native American, is it cool for me to put feathers in my hair then? What about if if was only his grandfather who was Native American? Does it have to be in my blood?

What if you have two people who are equally part of a culture and one of them thinks it's okay for the white guy to "appropriate" their culture while the other doesn't.

Cultures do now own their symbols or things, Christianity does not own the usage or the cross or even the crucifix.

There's a high likelihood that I may be descended from Ghengis Khan, does that mean it's okay for me to adopt Mongol culture?

To be honest, this is an IDIOT issue- in that some woman decides to accost a non-minority man for "appropriating" her culture. Not that this isn't something to sit down and discuss at a later time, but this has been happening for decades- why in the fuck does the fact that this woman causing the matter to become an internet sensation make it something to suddenly make a mountain out of a molehill about?

As a black man, I see other, non-minority people wearing dreadlocks on occasion, and I shake my head about it, but I'm not even remotely thinking that I need to get in someone's face and assault them for "stealing my culture"- hell, if that were the case, I should have gone to a Vanilla Ice concert back in the day and put the beatdown on Mr. Robert Van Winkle, among many other things.

And to be honest yet again, black people have been watching other non-minority folks "steal their culture" for decades-- what gives this entitled young woman the right to stop and accost someone for what offends her??

And that tagline, about "If it is offending others, [the offending person] should consider giving up that luxury..." Well, sagging pants offends me! I think all black men should give up the luxury of wearing their jeans down underneath the cheeks of their asses!!
But even as a black man-- or especially because I'm a black man-- I seriously doubt that A) there will be an article or a video sensation about the matter, or B) anyone will be discussing making young free black men stop wearing their pants down past their ass because it offends me.

This kid absolutely has the right to wear his hair however he wants without being assaulted. Everybody has that right.

But I gotta tell you, a white Jew with dreadlocks makes me want to vomit. I won't vomit on him, because that would be assault. But I wouldn't hire him, eat next to him, or let him in my house. I can only imagine how gross he smells.
