Video games are fine- everyone needs a hobby that lets them unwind- but there's a few things to be aware of.

1: Video games will still be there in 30 years.

2: Your health wont.

3: Don't play video games that are addictive by design. No DOTA, no League of Legends, no MMORPG's. Unless you're with friends you should never play a game that won't let you pause, or punishes you for quitting the game.

Honestly, if you have fun doing it from time to time do it. Try having fun doing productive things though. If you're playing video games don't play call of duty too much it's really addicting, repetitive, and there's no substance. Play something nerdy with a story and good dialogue. You might actually be able to learn something from something with a decent story!

They are a time suck. Time better spent doing other things. But if you want to play video games, that is on you and your goals.

Youve identified that you're addicted - if you're addicted its fucking your life choices and it needs to end. There's a chance you'll never be able to consume in moderation. Some can, some can't. Best doing what works for you.

just switch it for let's say boxing, cooking new recipes or playing with other people in your room

more social, more healthy and as relaxing as gaming

I play them , I think they're a fun outlet , I don't condone spending 6 hours a day playing them but on the days where you have dead time and want to relax why not? To me it's no different from watching a movie, bingeing on netflix , hbo , or amazon prime . It's a leisure activity , just don't pump all your itme into leisure activities and you should be able to maintain a degree of personal development.

Video games are a complete waste of time. I'd say the only time when it's OK to play would be on the rare occasion when you really, really need an escape, since you're better off playing video games than going out and getting drunk and making your mental state even worse.

Sit down and note how much time you waste a month playing video games, and think about what else you could be doing with your time.

Nothing wrong with it. I haven't played in a while personally. When destiny 2 drops I'll definitely be playing some of that while my LTR watches her lame ass Chicago shows that I care nothing about.

Edit I should add that there should only be one thing in this life you are addicted to. And that is the human experience. If you are letting video games stand in the way of real world fun and life experiences then you have issues. When you are addicted to living life and getting the most of the human experience you'll always put yourself first.

It's about prioritizing dude. Video games should be at the bottom of your list of priorities. I thought about quitting video games "all together," but that wasn't necessary for me, I still unwind every other day with a game of 2 of LoL, and I fucking love it.

I had a nasty addiction a few years ago. It got to a point where my life started stalling noticeably outside of work (ie socially). I would start cancelling on mediocre plans to grind away. I've now quit playing video games all together and my time is much more productive. Get some real hobbies you can hone your skill in and talk to people about eg a musical instrument, sport, martial art etc

If you think you have a problem, you probably do. You're not working to improve yourself, you're just getting by. Video games, drinking, a little grass-- they're all good if used for relaxation and in moderation, like once a week.

I played RuneScape as a kid, super addicting.

Those that play hours upon hours have a shitty life, and they're trying to escape it using videogames as a scapegoat.

Took me a while to realize it, but I'm glad I did.

As long as you can play in moderation and not let it interfere with your social life, work, or self improvement, then it's fine.

If you are addicted and play for too long and find it hard to have self control about it then you need to remove it from your life.
