India executes only men since 1955. Woman hills 7 people (including children) and is sentenced to death. CNN blames patriarchy: "women who violate entrenched norms of gender behavior are more likely to receive the death penalty." If no woman has ever been executed, how do they conclude this?

They need to

1)Allow teachers (and all males) anonymity if accused of a sex crime until convicted.

2) Have a recruitment drive aimed at males as they do in engineering for females.

3) Give bursaries and study packages to males as they do for females in engineering.

4) Set targets for schools to meet in the recruitment of male teachers. No salary or bonus for head and decision makers if they do not recruit more male teachers

etc

Allow teachers (and all males) anonymity if accused of a sex crime until convicted.

This is the big one in my view. However feminists will oppose such laws because they would extend to adults and "other [female] victims may not come forward". They care more about theoretical female victims than actual male lives or the health of children.

Quotas. Fair is fair. Too many female teachers? guess you have hire a man next. Can't get one? Guess you'll have to sweeten the offer until you can.

Now you know how we feel in the tech industry

I know a guy who taught for almost forty years and coached softball for twenty. He retired early 2000's. Last few years he worked he refused to ever be alone with a female student. He'd never had any issues and was an older, married and respected educator. But he'd heard and seen so many stories of dubious/false accusations he was terrified. He hated it. He'd need to talk to a student about bad grades/work/etc and he'd have to find excuse to keep another student in the room. But not a friend.

Not a friendly environment for guy teachers.

Most schools have policies that teachers cannot be alone with students ever. This policy is to protect both the students and teachers.

Few men in their right mind will be seen around a group of children for fear of being branded a paedophile.

You feel it when you pick up your kids from school, in the obviously mistrustful glances from female teachers and mums. You feel it with your kids at a playground where you find yourself searching for an innocent place to let your eyes rest for fear of being accused of watching someone else's kids.

I foster kids so I spend a lot of time in places like these. I look at men with their kids and so many look genuinely uncomfortable, like it isn't their place to be around children.

THAT is why there are no male teachers. Try finding any at all in kindergarten/nursery. I think Schwarzenegger was the last one and he was pretending.

I was training to be a nursery teacher but left due to excessive rules and guidelines I had to follow.

However while the female staff were pleasant enough and we're accepting, I felt like the eyes of the world were upon me. When the kids gave me a hug or wanted to sit on my lap for story time a voice in my head said 'oh god please don't let anyone see this as they could freak out and accuse me of something sinister'

I guess it was fear and paranoia that's been ingrained in me due to negative outlook on my gender with children.

A lot of the talk amongst the staff in the room was what could be described as girl-talk to, so it wasn't welcoming in that regard as I didn't fit.

I hate to say this, but males will become teachers when they can get paid as much as they can on doing other jobs that are not as hard to aquire as teaching. I am in the Navy, every time I teach I get told I should do that when I retire from the Navy in 2 years. But it just isnt financially viable for me, so instead I will probably work on an oil rig repairing electronics or something.

None of that was meant to be a brag on me, just a general statement. Other people have pointed out other good reasons as well.

I have a shirt with the face of Mr. Rogers on it. Wore it to a party for elementary school teachers. There was me, one male employee and a husband or two, and a room full of raucus, drunk and stoned women blurting out anything on their minds. And oh the catfighting...

One woman saw my shirt and her first reaction was "he looks creepy." After a few seconds she corrected herself and said "not that I'm suspicious because he's a man!" True story.

The damage was done by that freudian association game. It was no different than a black person going to a store and being followed for suspicion of stealing.

The article pushes that indoctrinated feminist duplicity hard. Women are victims whether minority or majority:

"As a male teacher in a primary school," says Walker, "you are immediately visible and you immediately 'stand out'. In my experience, men are often presumed to be confident and competent in many elements of their practice, which may need to be 'proved' more demonstrably for female teachers.

"When I enter a classroom," the teacher continues, "there is already a sense that I might want to do things in a more quirky or unusual way because my career choice is perceived as quirky and unusual itself.

(Caption) Jonny Walker believes that the female majority have it harder than the male minority

"However, this professional freedom is an unearned privilege - and an advantage my female colleagues may not necessarily experience because they are in the majority."

This article was so full of shit. The reason there aren't more male teachers is because our bigoted, sexists, oppressive society doesn't give teaching the respect it deserves, therefore men ignore/reject it. They're so quick to pounce on any gender bias in the STEM world, yet, as always can't see their own hypocrisy when things are reversed.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

IMHO the correct question isn't "How do we fix the problem" the correct question is "How would we fix the problem if it was women who were underrepresented" and then do whatever that answer is.
