I was recently discussing with a friend the idea of a “perfect guy”. After the obvious checkmarks of attractive, as fit as myself and capable of providing we got into the personality aspect.

I said they had to be funny, really funny, like no matter what the situation is they can drop a ridiculous line and make me throw my head back and laugh. Like my best friend, Jen (fake name), never fails to do.
I said they have to be easy to talk to, about everything. From future planning to day to day discrepancies to past issues that I need help working through, like Jen can do.
I said I need to know that I can always depend on them without having to consider the specific situation and whether or not it’s convenient for them to do so. Because when shit hits the fan and I absolutely need someone there’s not going to be time to run through all of the scenarios to be sure I can count on them, I just need to be able to. Like with Jen.

At this point my friend cut me off and said, “that’s the third time you compared them to Jen”.

That’s when it hit me, of course I’m comparing them to her! They’re trying to replace her, they should be equal to or better than my best friend. Obviously nobody will ever replace her, but my potential mate will end up taking up the majority of my time if they work out. That time should be spent with someone that adds nothing but joy and satisfaction to my life.

So remember ladies, men should be held to the absolute highest standard that you hold your friends. Your very best friend.

What are some traits your best friends have that you require in a partner?
