Those with depression are less likely to work long hours/overtime or ask for raises.

Men who aren't the president are a million bazillion times more likely to suffer from gangrene.

That's a true fact.

Albeit it a rather pointless and misleading one.

The paper this is based on is called Unequal depression for equal work? How the wage gap explains gendered disparities in mood disorders

I can only access the abstract which begins (my italics):

Mood disorders, such as depression and anxiety, are more prevalent among women than men. This disparity may be partially due to the effects of structural gender discrimination in the work force, which acts to perpetuate gender differences in opportunities and resources and may manifest as the gender wage gap.

You see the hedging there? The caution of qualification? Not only is it only “may be … due to” but it’s only “partially” true, if indeed it is even true at all.

And note that when it says "depression and anxiety" are "more prevalent among women than men” it completely bypasses the fact that "depression and anxiety” have to be self-reported and as men are statistically more likely to underreport “mood disorders”, especially when compared to women, then is it any fucking surprise that women appear to be more depressed more of the time?

At the end of the abstract, it says (my italics):

Structural forms of discrimination may explain mental health disparities at the population level. Beyond prohibiting overt gender discrimination, policies must be created to address embedded inequalities in procedures surrounding labor markets and compensation in the workplace.

Wait, what? What kind of irresponsible assholes use very clear hedging and guarded qualification language like "may be partially due to” and “may explain” and then leap from that to an unjustifiably overconfident demand that polices "policies must be created” to resolve a situation the paper’s own researchers acknowledge might - only might - have a partial yet unproven influence?

Fucking cunts. They’re a fucking disgrace to the profession.

I fucking despise Feminism for this one fact above all others - it has overtly politicised what once would have been an attempt at objective research for the purposes of an ideologically biased form of Leftwing activism.

And they do this on the most tenuous arguments that because true objectivity is never quite achievable, it should therefore be abandoned as an ideal and as a vital notional benchmark in order to retain suitable caution about conclusions at all times.

It fucking disgusts me. Western civilisation fucking deserves to sink into the sea and never be fucking seen again.

Basically this boils down to.

Women who believe in feminist lies are twice as likely to suffer from depression.

They were unable to provide any examples or statistics saying that women who work the same job are paid significantly less than males who work the same job. They also use equivalent education, thinking that womens studies is the same as structural engineering, as both degrees took four - eight years.

Isn't it the other way around?

If women internalise these negative experiences as reflective of inferior merit, rather than the result of discrimination, they may be at increased risk,' said PhD student Jonathan Platt, first author of the paper, published in the journal Social Science & Medicine.

i.e. if they DON'T believe they're simply being discriminated against they're more likely to suffer from depression?

If that is the case, it's a completely normal and welldocumented effect in psychology, people who blame themselves for bad shit even if they aren't at fault are more depressed and people who credit themselves for good shit even if it's not their own doing are less depressed.

No, it's to do with the sense of entitlement they have, not to do with whether or not they feel discriminated against.

You have to be careful about idiotic feminist terminology.

"Equivalent education and experience" means, finished highschool and worked the same amount of years at Walmart. Therefore she deserves to get paid as a CEO. When she isn't paid like a CEO she gets depressed.

It is completely divorced from the common understanding of what that phrase means.

This is absolutely correct. Nor do they consider that 99% of all work deaths are male. The 4 times as high suicide rate of males to females in work etc.

Or are depressed people less likely to succeed in all areas of their life, including work life?

[–]TheDude41 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Surveys are bullcrap. Respondents lie on them all the time.

Why would anyone tell the truth when they can contribute to a cause for free, by lying?
