I've seen a lot of these women. They tend to be heavy drinkers or occasional drug users. Then they get surrounded by the worst men the western culture has to offer and start a toxic venting session.

It's a mental condition, sort of like a fetish where the wires in their brain aren't quite right. Hearing their own voice brings them pleasure.

Most of western culture's problems are accepting mental problems as "just different".

Let me grab the source.

[–]Clockw0rk 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Most of western culture's problems are accepting mental problems as "just different".

Hot damn, you're one of very few people I've seen actually voice this!

We have normalized mental illness in some very dangerous ways, including applauding sociopathy as if it were a business skill.

I seem to remember a time when people took eating disorders super seriously.. and then somehow it just sort of faded into this idea of something some people have, like freckles.

For fuck sake, we turned hoarders into a television show.

Where are the medical professionals to step in and stop this madness?

[–]Philarete 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We have normalized mental illness in some very dangerous ways, including applauding sociopathy as if it were a business skill.

I think part of it is the revolt against the strictures of normalcy. Once norms are removed the line gets blurry between what is "quirky" and "I was born this way" and what is a legitimate illness.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I feel like this 'normalization' is mainly pushed or spouted by people that have no direct experience with mental illness, at least not with the severe sort. Coming from direct experience, I can state definitively that there is no silver lining to disorders like schizophrenia, Bipolar disorder, or Borderline. No one, and I mean NO ONE I know that has suffered from these afflictions, either dirctly or indirectly, has ever considered then 'normal' or beneficial in any way. It takes a lot of naivety and ignorance to think that there is any silver lining with severe mental issues

[–]lasciate 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Could have sworn I heard about some SJW circles where these types of diagnoses were collected and/or lauded. I could be misremembering.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You know, I reached the opposite conclusion. The latest DSM is quite expansive and sweeping. It seems to pathologize a wide array of behavior that would've once been considered normal. The DSM is a very influential book.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

When everyone is mentally ill, no one is.

[–]kizzan[S] 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Yeah how is it that guys just show up at her house and try to force sex on her.

[–]VoiceofLuke 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I used to live in a trashy part of town with artsy bars up and down the street. The women would let men do whatever they want so they could bitch about it the next day. Even chasing guys down to try to set them up.

[–]kizzan[S] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Really? Wow.

Mental health is upside-down in Western Culture...

[–]kizzan[S] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I am not part of hookup culture so I don't really know what goes on.

[–]VoiceofLuke 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

It's a bunch of people freaking out over if others are having more or better sex than them.

Truth is, I've found the best is when you've been in a relationship for about 6 months. It stays awesome and frequent till about the second year.

Drunk sex usually sucks, don't waste your time. It's like off brand cookies vs a high quality desert. The gold diggers are the best, it's their self imposed literal job and they take pride in it.

If and when you're done, real relationships are difficult because they're stable and relatively consistent. Your paranoia of their want of a child is unjustified (I've hurt a couple women thinking they were gold diggers). Alcohol does some damage. After 30, cigarettes cause some ED. You over react to things because hookup girls have real and fake mental issues and you've got a habbit of analyzing everything and you don't really need to anymore. Most girls won't try to kill you in your sleep and you won't have to flush your condoms anymore.

Just as men say women should protect themselves from rape at a bar, Men should protect themselves from psycho Women. Hookup culture is crazy and dangerous for everyone.

[–]kizzan[S] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wow thanks for the insight. I think I will steer clear of that.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

yeah, like you have to raise your eyebrows at the top comment claiming that ALL MEN she has chosen to have sex with transform into MONSTERS after the fact. She either has incredibly bad luck (doubtful) or incredibly bad taste. Somehow I highly doubt all the men in question were secretly evil and maintaining this angelic facade but what do i know.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If this is true and she has had this many bad problems with men, she needs to examine the type of people she hangs out with, and fix that. There are assholes in every group, in both genders.

[–]kizzan[S] 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I couldn't agree more with what you said. I have always said that taco bell would be dishonest with itself if it concluded that all people are cheap. Taco bell needs to conclude that it has decided to market itself to cheap people and therefore shouldn't be surprised when cheap people show up to buy it's food. Taco bell can work to change that if it wants or accept it as it is. So it is with people in our lives. A woman should not conclude that all men will want to rape her, maybe she should consider what she is doing to attract those type of men.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

The problem I have with articles like this is that they completely ignore the hand women have in this behavior/reality. If women did not reward men for these behaviors, and instead gravitated to the men that did not engage in pua type shit, the problem would sort itself out to a large extent. In truth, women tend to be attracted to these behaviors and theyr'e unfortunately unwilling to admit it. Their lack of self awareness to their complicity is absurd to the nth degree. But yeah, all men are at fault here obviously.

I should add that i'm not condemning women for their affinity towards these behaviors, because i think that a lot of it is purely biological. Just like men are driven more by aesthetic than many other variables in attraction. Feminism and women can tell you whatever they want, but the truth is they often do not practice what they preach.

[–]kizzan[S] 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Women always want plausible deniability. That is why they wear clothes that they know men will like yet get mad when they action get attention because they claim they didn't do anything wrong.

Yoga pants, cleavage, see through tops... "stop sexualizing me!"

[–]kizzan[S] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Haha! Exactly.

[–]kizzan[S] 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

For those of you involved in hookup culture, I am wondering how much truth there is to this. I realize that changing the name to rape culture is false.

I found this link on Facebook and two of the comments from Facebook friends were women saying this applies to all women.

[–]Lethn 13 points14 points15 points 10 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

That's a classic case of having some bad experiences of being mistreated by men and then blaming a whole gender for it, something which I'm not willing to do.

Also, what I find most interesting about these types of women who rant about how bad single men are they are often getting picked up in places like pubs and night clubs. Which makes me sit there and think to myself what the fucking hell are they expecting?

It's like going to a slum and expecting everybody to be polite, clean and refined. Introverted guys who treat women with respect do not often hang out at these places because they're shit holes. Now if this was happening to them generally then I'd feel a bit of sympathy, that's probably bad luck but with a lot of these women it isn't because they expect men to come to them and this is what happens when they do that.

I'm not that involved in 'hookup' culture and such because I just don't see the point in going after those kind of women but I've also heard all sorts of stories, interestingly many of my friends who are girls very rarely have to deal with those kinds of problems. Maybe it's precisely because of what I've said about what these women seem to be expecting.

It's just like that journalist awhile back who went to a bar and expect some of the men there to just suddenly jump on her and ask her out. No man who actually respects women is going to do that especially with the added risk of feminism now where you could easily get accused of sexual harassment for it.

The majority of these women will be all reaping what they sowed unfortunately which is why so many of them will be single by the time they reach their 30's and 40's and all the nicer women will have snatched up any men they might have originally wanted.

Yikes, that set me off a bit, must be because I haven't even had a girlfriend yet lol just hate it when all these women go around indirectly blaming a whole demographic because of shitty decisions they make in life.

[–]kizzan[S] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Yeah I would agree with you that she is expecting something she shouldn't. I think that is her point. Even though men need to protect themselves against thing women do, nevermind that, she should be able to expect to go out, be carefree, and not expect anybody to harm her. If that doesn't happen, then msyogny and rape culture.

[–]Ogmagog 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Can you specify what you mean by harm in this case?

[–]kizzan[S] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Harm meaning something done to her that a reasonable and prudent person would consider wrong.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Are you being sarcastic here? "She is expecting something she shouldn't" ~ so being treated like a respected & equal sexual partner is asking for too much? "She should be able to expect to go out, be carefree, and not expect anybody to harm her" ~ um, absolutely. Do you worry about being raped or mistreated when you go out? Why should she have to? Why does not a single one of you fault the behaviour of these men, but readily heap blame on women? Can't we work to change society & the way we treat eachother & the opposite sex?

[–]noth1ngbettertodo 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm a man (not that it should matter) and I grew up with the belief that physical relationships were a lot more fulfilling when there was an emotional and mental connection as well. I'm in my 30s now, but in my 20s I participated (briefly) in this hookup culture, and it didn't take too long for me to lose interest. Are we really surprised when we engage in a shallow, superficial, fleeting treatment of life that our resulting experiences end up being.... shallow and superficial? This is the unfortunate result of third wave feminism telling our girls and women today that truth is irrelevant, only feelings are relevant, and that you can't be held responsible and accountable for unhappiness in your life because whenever something bad happens in life, it's the patriarchy's fault.

[–]kizzan[S] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah I definately agree that feminism has played a large part in changing some women's expectations to set them up for bitterness.

[–]lasciate 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

When a woman is attracted to a man nothing seems like a red flag, even if he's doing a patriotic Chinese semaphore routine. They will project amorphous qualities like "kind" and "sweet" and "charming" onto him no matter how questionable his character is. Surprise, surprise - when the hangover sets in and the hormone deluge wears off he's the one who has "changed".

When a woman is not attracted to a man she turns into Joe McCarthy and everything seems like a red flag. A man who seemingly checks all of her Kafkaesque "likes" boxes except the most important one, physical attraction, will seem like a cretin.

And some women - almost certainly the damsel-like author of this tale of woe is such a one - are attracted to red flags. They constantly "find themselves" in uncomfortable, emotionally draining situations - through no fault of their own of course - and refuse to examine why they're in those situations.

If I showed up drunk at a fwb's house claiming I had no place to stay I wouldn't be allowed in. And I certainly wouldn't "find myself" in bed having sex with that person. Then again, I'm not the type of man this author probably associates with in the first place (thank God). It must be scary to be an adult woman (probably coddled all your life by a single mother, but that's a whole 'nother can of worms) and find that you're suddenly on your own with only a kindergartner's level of ability to navigate interpersonal relationships.

I've never had a woman "take my word for it" that I had a condom on, let me haggle with her for more than 5 minutes for sex (let alone "hours") or present her with an ultimatum or [implications implications]. I have had a woman promise to "return the favor" and then not do so. The next time we got together I told her to do me first and she refused. I no longer see her, because I realized what the deal was. I have enjoyable sex because I paid attention to the times when I didn't and don't pursue those types of partners anymore. I'm not a slave to superficial charm or looks.

This author needs to be celibate because she's hurting herself and rewarding and reinforcing bad behaviors. Honestly she should probably go home to mom and be taken care of again (maybe for the rest of her life). It's only a matter of time before her self-inflicted brand of helplessness turns

I’ve never been raped [...] but I’ve been coerced time after time after time

into

I let him do it when I didn't really want to so he raped me.

[–]kizzan[S] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So basically we all need to guard ourselves, whether man or woman. I wonder why this is such a novel concept to some people?

[–]mikesteane 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The ugly side of being available is that some people take advantage of your availability. I wonder if there is a solution to this complex conundrum. What do men have to do about it?

[–]kizzan[S] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah I agree.

[–]v573v 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If only society encouraged a culture that enabled her to have as much sex as anybody could want in a safe environment with a trusted partner... Like one of those gay marriages we read about in the news but for heterosexuals...

[–]kizzan[S] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah the fact that we have not provided that to her is proof that patriarchy exists.

Rule #1 of Adulthood: If absolutely everyone you meet is an utter and irredeemable asshole, chances are the real asshole is you.

 ---Or---

To borrow a line from the Feminist playbook:

"Perhaps, instead of blaming an entire gender for your shitty experience with some of them, you should make an effort to meet better members of that gender? Blaming an entire gender for the crimes of the few of them that do so is sexist. Instead of blaming all men for your troubles, go out, change your standards, and meet better men! If that means you stop sleeping around so that the skeezballs stop hanging around your door, then you do what you have to do, right? Don't be a bigot, girl. Woman up, realize where your choices have personally caused you grief, and change those choices."

[–]kizzan[S] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Did a feminist actually say that?

[–]CrazyInAnInsaneWorld 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Paraphrased from the stereotypical line used when "Nice Guys" rant about just being used and strung along. The source line is more like "Instead of blaming all women for your shitty experiences with some of them, perhaps you should pursue better women. Don't be a bigot. Man up, and realize where your personal choices in women you pursue have caused you grief, and change those choices."

Which, to be fair, I do think they have a point, on this matter. If a woman just sees a guy as an ATM or a Beast of Burden, we shouldn't give them the time of day past just generalized civility reserved for any human being. It could even be argued that a certain degree of contempt is deserved. But reinforcing that behavior by validating it with material resources and affection is the last thing any man should do. The linked article is basically the female version of the Nice Guy Rant. I just flipped the genders and narrative around a bit.

[–]kizzan[S] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That does seem like something they would say. I wish they would follow their own advice though. Lol

[–]CrazyInAnInsaneWorld 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Unfortunately, the entitled, whether male or female is irrelevant, tend to have a rather low quantity of self-awareness, and don't really tend to see when they're being hypocrites. It does make for some good lulz for those from outside the situation, though.

[–]jackrands800 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Tough

[–]sillymod 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If you have occasional bad situations, you are occasionally running into bad people.

If you consistently have bad situations, it is time to stop what you are doing and look internally to find out why this keeps happening. You aren't responsible for people doing bad things to you. But if you want to stop bad things from happening, you need to look for solutions on how to avoid getting into those situations in the first place.

Rule 1 of being an adult.

[–]kizzan[S] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly

[–]DillipFayKick 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The 'bad experience' this woman had is due to her expectations. So no, I don' think the men should have to change their behavior. If her expectation is set reasonably low for the experiences she's into having then she won't be so ready blame men. When I did the 'sleeping around' thing, I had plenty of shit experiences with women. I don't expect them to change, I just stopped sleeping around.

[–]kizzan[S] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think the big difference is women have had decades of feminism and as such believe they have the right to do this.

[–]noth1ngbettertodo 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Whenever I hear anyone, man, woman, non-binary, gay, straight, bi, white, black, tall, short, etc... make categorical judgements on an entire sex, race, demographic, etc... based on their personal observations and experiences, I automatically dismiss that person as childish and narcissistic with an unhealthy sense of entitlement. Grow up, reality and expectations of life sometimes (most of the time) don't match up. Sometimes, people are losers. In my personal experience, people who suck at life usually blame everyone else for their problems - but I could be wrong, it might actually be that the great majority of people out there who are losers and/or suck at life take ownership and responsibility for it.

[–]kizzan[S] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No I think you are dead on. I actually feel sorry for people like this because they will go thru life very bitter.
