There’s the claim that a group for male students will champion men’s rights over women’s rights and try to silence prominent feminists on campus

I love how providing a contrary viewpoint is consistently conflated with "silencing" feminists. Who's the one being silenced when the men's club is being actively denied the ability to even assemble while feminism and feminist theory literally saturates every aspect of academic life to the point that male students must take mandatory "how not to be a rapist" classes?

All I can say to the "fear" that a Men's Rights group would champion men's rights over women's rights is "duh". It's called Men's Rights for a reason. I don't go around complaining that the women's clubs on campuses don't spend enough time talking about men's issues...

[–]Lethn 30 points31 points32 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They talk about being silenced but MRAs are the ones with actual footage of feminists trying to disrupt their events constantly, this article shouldn't be even read really.

They think this because they are projecting.
They silence men, so they assume men will silence them.

Feminists think men are sexist, because they are sexist.

This is very similar to Sargon's Law:

Whenever an ideologue makes a character judgement about someone they are debating with, that character judgement is usually true about themselves.

Good point about projection!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again... Feminism is a religion. It uses religious tactics. It's smart to do so, but eventually people will wake up to the truth, and abandon it.

Patriarchy = Original Sin. The concept that you are born into something that you deserve to be punished for. The notion that you are inherently broken, and you must beg for forgiveness. This has historically been their biggest weapon. It's on the same level as White Guilt.

They use the same double speak, cognitive dissonance, slandering, and censorship tactics. Any criticism is seen as oppressive, even though they are in the majority. They paint their history as if they were the constant victims, when in fact they were the abusers.

Victimhood... This is just as powerful as Patriarchy/Original Sin. It's based around guilt, and sympathy. Jews/Christians/Muslims use this to no end. Jews were never slaves of Egypt, Christians aren't oppressed in the US...

This constant preachment about being oppressed, and victims, while their entire history is littered with blood is simply laughable. Muslims screaming that they are a religion of peace, yet show up en masse to kill people for drawing pictures.

Just like how religion is a dying community in the West, the same will happen to feminism. Their best tools/weapons will also be their downfall.

It's an ideology. All ideologies are like that.

Ask a Marxist why the financial crisis happened, and the answer is too much capitalism. Ask a hardcore libertarian, and the answer is too much government intervention. Ask them the cause of any problem, and it's the same answer.

Feminism is pretty similar.

Only, Marxists and Libertarians are (sometimes) open to debate. They don't think that the problem is how people think, they think that there's actually a real problem out there. They don't really care what you think, they care about people's actions. Once an ideology starts thinking that the problem is all in people's heads (old-thinking, whatever Mao said the cultural revolution was meant to fix, hearsay, etc) then they completely lose the plot, because you can't even have a polite conversation.

It's that dogmatic resistance to debate that likens them to a religion.

I had never before made the connection between feminist 'patriarchy' theory and the Catholic idea of 'Original Sin' - but you're absolutely right.

Can't these "banned" groups complain to that human rights commission up there like a Title IX complaint here?

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points27 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The supposed privilege of of men is ironically falsified by the fact that men can't even have a simple campus group that others get to in joy.

Why is a girl using a sextoy sexy and a man using a sextoy disgusting? Why is a girl going commando, sexy and a man doing the same, disgusting?

Ya gotta love double standards.

[–]kragshot 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because female privilege, you know? You gay guys just hate women and want to deprive them of their god-given right to be wherever they want to be.

You gays are so misogynistic! You don't believe me? Ask Rose McGowan! She said so! /s

I had a cousin that worked in HR and recruiting. She said something once that really stuck. "Men are not a 'protected group' in America."

[–]bakedpotato486 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Out of curiosity, was it a statement as though that's how it should be, or that that's the unfortunate reality of it?

[–]Electroverted 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She said it like I can't complain because no one will do anything about my problems. And I repeat it since it's a sad state.

Sex is actually a protected class.

I'm writing a letter to the Justice Centre for Cinstitutional Freedoms, and linking to this article. I'm so sick of this. The above mentioned group has stood up for marginalized campus groups in the past ( ie pro life) and with strongly worded legal letters, got the student unions to back down. Perhaps nothing can or will come of it, but I just want to find out if there is any legal recourse here.

I'm also writing to the author of this article to see if there is any possibility to get the affected students in touch with the above mentioned group.

I suggest trying to get something done here guys, even if it ultimately leads nowhere.

Because females are sexist bigots who expect chivalry, and they write all the rules.

[–]Alkomb[🍰] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Couldn't have said that better, myself.

It's sad for me to think that maybe 40-50 years ago a "Men's group" wouldn't have been controversial at all. Men and women used to get a lot of their own stuff, but now only women do. Thanks to these idealogues, the issues a men's group discusses are going to be vastly different from what they would have been 50 years ago.

There has got to be one -- ONE -- lawyer in Ontario that can at the very least write a letter to the RSU pro bono.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ryerson Student Union (RSU) denied certification to a men’s club on campus in 2012 because of its alleged association with supposed “hate groups,” according to then-RSU president Rodney Diverlus.

Feminism is pretty much a hate group at this point.

[–]SideTraKd 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This all reminds me of a radio advert that I used to hear every day...

It always ended with "Women and minorities encouraged to apply!!!"

Hrmmm... I wonder which group ISN'T encouraged to apply..?

[–]yummyluckycharms 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

To be honest, Men's rights groups need to go underground and have a guerrilla campaign. Destroy all sexists posters, put up graffiti promoting gender equality, etc. Basically, they need to drive up the costs of oppression to the point where it doesnt make sense to continue crushing mens rights.

Right now, they are trying to stand up for themselves in the open, at an institution that is predominantly female oriented, in a society that is gynocentric, while expecting to be treated fairly. Its pretty much like running a jewish rights organization next to Nazi headquarters in 1930's Germany
