Simple tech solution. Spring-mounted toilet seats. Seat stays in the up position, pull it down when you want or need to sit. Your ass keeps the seat down, until you stand up. The spring slowly returns the seat to the upright position.

I spend (too long) formulating a 'one-touch' rule. In short: everyone agrees to touch the seat once during their lavatory trip. Men put it up at the start, women put it down. What could represent a more equal compromise, I humbly ask?

How about what I call the "be a goddamn adult" rule? Nobody pisses on the seat, guys put it up, ladies sit your ass down on it and don't "hover". And then everyone puts the seat in the position they need it to be in before use.

How fucking difficult is this?

I recently used the lavatory on an airplane after a petite asian woman came out...and found the seat sprayed with so much urine that i'm not even convinced she bent her knees. So let's not pretend this is a "men pee on the seat" issue, every woman knows that's not true.

The default position of a toilet seat should always be up.

After using the toilet seat, you clean it, removing any puss and shit off of it, and then lift the seat up, so that the next person who uses it knows that they have a clean seat to sit on.

Only lazy people who can't be bothered cleaning up after themselves leave the seat down.

It depends on how many people are in the house - more boys, leave it up, more girls, leave it down. Also, who owns the place or is the leaseholder. They get the decisive vote if it's a tie. I've lived in shitloads of places and no one has ever objected to this.
