No, often women complain about men using the "family" area, so it often doesn't go without saying at all. Anywhere with children is often a no-go area for men.

As a stay-at-home dad I love that shopping centre has these. "Family Lounge" is codename for rooms with multiple toilets together (not separated) and diaper change stations and breast feeding areas. Without this "clarification" I can easily get yelled at or chased out (or even "politely asked to leave" as "I'm making them feel uncomfortable" when e.g. breastfeeding. You know, "if I don't mind")

So it's sad we live in a society where this sign is needed, but this sign is needed.

It doesn't go without saying. In fact the assumption that males are not allowed in "family" spaces is so strong that I really appreciate the explicit inclusion of fathers.

Dads are discriminated against practically everywhere these days. It's a crying shame that they have to specify that dad is, indeed, part of the family!

Looks like some kind of mall so assume marketing. Probably feel they have a lack of dads taking their kids shopping and are trying to nudge them in the direction of doing so.

When I see those signs, I infer that the room offers actual privacy for breastfeeding mothers, as opposed to having a couple of chairs right out in the open next to changing table. Which you'd think would go without saying, since the kind of mother (or baby) who needs a separate area to nurse probably doesn't want a procession of strange adults and romping toddlers fucking up their letdown reflex, but in my day (get off my lawn!), malls had not yet figured out that simple aspect of interior design. You could turn around the chair to face the wall, but that was pretty much your only option. The best setup I've seen is curtained cubicles set up around edge of a larger room with toys, a couch, a changing table and a single handicapped-accessible bathroom.
