There are certain groups it is courteous to give up a seat to. Pregnant, injured, old, sick, sometimes children especially if it means a family sitting together.

Possessing a vagina does not mean it is difficult for you to stand. This just reeks of "it's chivalry when I like it, sexism when I don't."

It's a new age. Chivalry is dead and good riddance.

In my perfect world, if someone wants my seat they can ASK for it. Chances are that when I'm travelling to work (and being still not fully awake) or back from it (being generally tired/preoccupied) I won't be actively looking out for strangers to give out my seat to.

I mean, let's be honest here - you want something from me (my seat) and I don't want anything from you or even know you want something. THE LEAST you as a person (man or woman) can do is to speak up and say you want it.

I would say, "Maybe the guy sitting is unemployed or gets his wages garnished."

The real point being, why use group averages when we can get individual numbers? Maybe the rule can be, the poorer person gets the seat, no matter what their gender.

Personally, I think it's sad that chivalry is dying, but that is the logical conclusion of feminism, so it may have to.

Stupid people need stupid arguments. OP, use this one on them: women work 74% of hours than men do: http://www.bls.gov/iif/oshwc/cfoi/cfoi_rates_2007h.pdf (116,468/158,049 =73.6%). The fact that women make 77 cents (and not 73.6 cents) per man's dollar is a blatant discrimination against men.

And given that men work more probably it's better that they get seats in public transportation because they are more tired.

PS I know that this counter-argument is ridiculous. But 77 percent argument is even more ridiculous.
