MRA 'hate' of Mad Max Fury Road seems to be clever guerrilla marketing

The messed up thing about this is that the group and person involved with insulting the movie for its feminist leanings were actually non-MRA. Some of the members of Return of Kings actually dislike the MRM because they consider it too soft. This enemy-marketing is another strawmen tactic and the best thing we can do is avoid the fights all together. We should be free to see or not see, enjoy or not enjoy, a movie regardless of who is involved or what political nature exists behind the scenes.

The only thing about this that truly infuriates me is that MRAs are being painted as the boogeymen for the sake of feminist propaganda, only this time it is using a highly-received wide released film that the public will defend even if they don't realize that they are attacking the wrong group in defending the movie.

Some one posted here about this a day or two ago.

They said something about the movie hiring a rabid feminist as a consultant for the movie, but nothing about the content of the movie.

They were encouraging people to not see the movie.

I asked a couple of simple questions.

'So the movie is anti men?'

and

'How does one know that, without seeing it?'

I got no answer, but a few down votes.

Reddit is shit.

meh, whatever. I don't go to the movies anyway. I will rent it for a buck when the DVD comes out. Or watch it on *tube.com

Unlikely. The interest generated by the "controversy" would do very little to add to the box office of such a high profile movie. It is far more likely that the pro-feminist media picked up on the ROK article in order to make MRAs look like the kind of idiots who critique a movie they have not seen.

It's funny how feminists are the experts on boycotts and hate against pieces of fiction and their creators, but when one non-MRA manosphere blogger calls to boycott a movie, they get all uppity.

Feminists literally bullied Joss Whedon from Twitter and the mass media is silent. One blogger rants about Mad Max and everyone loses their minds.

Just saw the movie. It's fantastic. They even seem to poke fun a bit at the feminist myth of a gynocratic utopia.

It sounds far fetched on the surface but you bet this is how marketing is done these days.

They knew they were making a Manly Movie so they hired a feminist to consult. That's a huuuuge sign that they are aware of this gender war shit going on. If they know it and they have a thing to market, intentional controversy-marketing is highly plausible. All they have to do is get people talking.

I love this theory.

I was thinking about it while I was watching it yesterday. Yeah, the bad guy is a dude, and he's just trying to get his multiple wives back, but it was a 50/50 chance that it would be a dude. It's not like there were thirty different choices, and it ended up being a guy. Whatever. The two main characters shared screen time pretty much equally, and it was a really fun movie. There isn't anything that should be controversial. It's just a movie. I enjoyed it.

Even if it had been a feminist propaganda piece, I would have enjoyed it as a movie, and taken it with a grain of salt. It's like Battlefield: Earth. It wasn't a shitty movie because it was about the cult of scientology, it was a shitty movie because the plot sucked, the acting was abysmal, and it was generally all-around stupid.

I had a friend on FB comment that "now I have to go see the Mad Max movie just because the MRAs hate it" which struck me as a stupid reason to go see a movie but not any stupider than some of the calls I've seen to avoid it due to its "feminist agenda".

i've noticed females posting this on FB and having a good laugh, as if they're saying yes! we're pissing off the MRA so we're doing something right! it's hard to point out to them that return of kings isn't exactly MRA, but that shows their ignorance of the MRA movement.

on the plus side, i've also noticed for a lot of women on FB this is the first time they've even heard of men's rights. guerrilla marketing and mocking aside, at least people are hearing about men's rights, even if the article isn't entirely correct.

Really? you don't see ANY sexism in the movie? AT ALL? are you blind, or do you just see sexism when it's against women?

So you are telling me that you didn't notice that in a post-apocalyptic world, where women are equally as capable of kicking ass as men, the antagonist had an army consisting solely of male soldiers? In fact, apparently, Furiousa was the only female soldier in that whole army and she just happens to be the protagonist. Also, you didn't notice that 90% of the men in the movie are physically disfigured in some way or another or mentally retarded, and 90% of the women are gorgeous with "smooth skin" and somewhat rational? Let me guess, to you, that is a fair representation of the male and female genders. Because, you know, men are ugly and incapable of intelligent thought and women are perfect angels who's sole purpose is to bring peace and love to the world.

I went into it looking for a decent action flick. I have no issues with male/female protagonist, as long as it's a decent movie. But every scene in this movie I was like...."What. The. Fuck?".

I can dig a little deeper. Lets say that the movie is a representation of the world. Basically, if it were a representation of the world, than it is saying that the world is ruled by men. Men who are so corrupt and who's only purpose in life is to oppress and hurt others. People in the real world who behave this way are seen as ugly human beings, in the movie, this ugliness is represented by physical deformities. Did you see a single woman in the movie who was deformed? there were fat naked women, sure, but even they were being used by the evil men for their milk, or in other words, victims of men. There was not a single man in the movie who had a decent moral compass. Even Max was made out to only be in it for survival, and not to fix the world that they are in. The women in the movie, on the other hand, are physically beautiful, who are oppressed and victims of the men. Furiousa is the rock. She is the strong character who has a decent moral compass and is out to help humanity. So, in other words, the movie is saying that all men in the world are ugly (in the sense that they are all corrupt and inherently evil), and women are victims of all men. Furiousa is a representation of what feminism believes itself to be. Something that strikes down the evil plague that is the male gender, and saves the world.

So why are some men angry? because most men aren't corrupt or evil. Most men want women to have the same rights and the same responsibilities as they do. This movie tells men that that isn't what feminism is about, that men are evil by nature, and that the only way the world can be saved from the evil of the male species is by empowering women. I don't think there would be any problems if it were more evened out. An oppressive society run by both men and women, an evil army with both male and female soldiers, and 2 protagonists who are actually equal, because THAT would show that there are bad people out there, and the only way the world can be saved and made into a better place is for good people, both men and women, to work together.
